That is delightful!
ANYWAY, falling marriage rates are always cast as some sort of issue? Don't agree with that. Marriage is no longer *compulsory,* is all that tells me, and that's good. It shouldn't be.
Maybe it's because I'm Gen X, but I CLEARLY remember old, married couples who despised each other for decades.
AI is just the latest attempt to control new productivity (the Internet) and divert the gains away from the commons.
In that respect, it works. It doesn’t have to increase productivity—in fact can decrease it, as we’ve seen—as long as it diverts more profits into elite pockets.
Happy birthday!
It's a sign of a failed society when it continues to platform people who consistently get big things wrong. We should not still be subjected to most of the people writing Op-Eds at the New York Times who spent DECADES getting everything about war AND peace wrong.
Cover of "Fairies: A History" by Francis Young
This is far and away the most comprehensive book on fairy phenomenon and belief that I've read. @drfrancisyoung.bsky.social combines his strengths as folklorist and historian to write a book that is respectful toward fairy belief and deeply researched. Enchanting in every sense.
We’re delighted to announce Tales from the Territory, in which award-winning storyteller @travisbaldree.bsky.social takes us back to the Territory in a heart-warming set of five stories: subterraneanpress.com/newsannounci...
PLEASE.

Rewarded myself for all today's adulting with 3 new books. Had an hour to kill between appointments so a bookstore was the only answer.
Ugh, now 30 minutes past appointment time just sitting in a room waiting on the doctor.
The hardcover of Platform Decay, art by Jaime Jones, stacked in a cardboard box with padding air bags.
So this arrived today:
Took the toll thinking I'd be late for my appointment if I didn't so now am 9 minutes early.
Update: all is well & he's in recovery & can come home in a couple hours!
Orange tabby empathetic one ear flicked back on a white bedspread.
This sweetheart is off getting his teeth cleaned & my house is too empty.
I hate having emotions about reality; I’d much rather have them about Sanctuary Moon.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani behind the counter of a bodega in The Bronx, flanked by various people. A journalist with a microphone labeled “Shop Cats” is standing in front of the sales counter, and holding the mic up to a black and white cat sitting on the counter next to bananas. The cat has an expression like in the famous “Sir, are you aware that you are a cat” meme
“Sir, are you aware that you are a cat, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani is standing right behind you?”
I knew I had no sense of sound orientation but today wins. Wandered through my upstairs to see what fell when a package was delivered on the porch.
Letter to the Person Who Carved His Initials into the Oldest Living Longleaf Pine in North America by Matthew Olzmann —Southern Pines, NC Tell me what it’s like to live without curiosity, without awe. To sail on clear water, rolling your eyes at the kelp reefs swaying beneath you, ignoring the flicker of mermaid scales in the mist, looking at the world and feeling only boredom. To stand on the precipice of some wild valley, the eagles circling, a herd of caribou booming below, and to yawn with indifference. To discover something primordial and holy. To have the smell of the earth welcome you to everywhere. To take it all in and then, to reach for your knife.
😔 😟
They want to destroy all the fields that can tell them “no” and they did so from watching how mis/ disinformation handled it self
Start of the afternoon walk was overcast & smelled like honeysuckle, but the sun came out so it was just hot & gross by the end.

Disheveled bear exits cave after hibernation
Gus exited his cave this morning and we accidentally started a new religion.
Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. [alt text from NASA]
The #Artemis II astronauts said they needed more superlatives to describe their view of the eclipse, when the Sun was behind the Moon and its near surface was faintly illuminated by Earthshine
