It's not an obstacle in itself and not about inclusivity. It informs the conversation and can give it meaning. I suppose that's why social media relationships "mature" and become more meaningful with time and repeated interactions. I now know more about you and where you are coming from😉

IMO human interaction cannot be "sandboxed". Even at courts of law, externalities matter.

You can never completely solve the problems, as is true in the analog world. But you can take steps in making it less toxic and manipulative.

Thinking about it now, why on earth did we ever decide to engage in conversation with people who we don't know. Most of them we would probably cross the street so as we don't have to have eye contact.

The CEO of Airbnb made an interesting observation in an interview. He said Airbnb cannot survive not verifying it's users AND the locations for rent. His take was that social media should work in the same way. (The hacking target is squarely on bsky's side to protect).

I think it would be easier to moderate real users than bots.

Verification for every account is the only way. Once that is in place the rest is doable.
