Or had she? Halfway down page 49 of this book is the line 'The thought of Miss Winters in handcuffs gave Sarah considerable pleasure'.
Could well be. I noticed Llewellyn Rees's use of "Mum" while Jack Howarth goes with "Mam".
How did Albert go to school with somebody so posh?
Yes, I noticed that. It stands out because everything else is so 1980s continuity-faithful, as if JNT had proofreader it - console room, not control room, and so forth.
I just finished a re-read of this last night. ๐
We had a milk jug on the table, and a sugar bowl. Both part of my parents' middle-class aspirations, I suspect. (Though of course, proper middle-class people wouldn't allow sugar in the house. ๐)
As it's the birthday of #HeleneHanff I'm reposting one of my favourite extracts from her dry, warm, very human writing.
I wrote more about HH for the We Are Cult site a few years ago: wearecult.rocks/helene-hanff...

It's the anniversary of the birth of Illiam Dhone, owner of one of the most distinctive hats in the history of the Isle of Man, and doer of lots of other stuff.
If you don't know Dhone, here's a very serious video all about him, featuring Pixar-quality animation.

It looks wonderful, but isn't an 18 Certificate a slight overreaction to Peter Purves topless? ๐
Is there any other way?
I've just Wiki'd it, and one of the characters was called Harry Sullivan. *Our* Harry Sullivan's episodes would have been shown in Australia round the time the snoozy show was being set up. ๐ค
We lived next door but one to my primary school, so always went home for lunch until secondary school. I remember The Sullivans but thought it a grown-up snoozefest. The best lunchtime show was The Champions, but that was on Granada, so we could only get a snowy image of it, in the Border region.
The 1974 Dr Who (sic) Annual 1974 featuring various photos of Jon Pertwee and a random red triangle that looks as if they didn't have any more Pertwee pics.
The Star Trek Annual 1973 with a cover featuring what looks like a carefully negotiated painting where Mr Spock is further forward, but Captain Kirk is positioned higher.
The Bookshop in Michael Street, Peel wants ยฃ10 for the 1974 Dr Who (sic with a shudder) Annual. However, they're letting the 1973 Star Trek annual go for a fiver.
I don't make the rules. ๐คท
Happy Birthday, Dave. I wonder which episodes they'll recover for your 61st. ๐
Pause of Destruction.
I remember reading this; it really did feel as if you were speaking with someone from a bygone age. When her episodes were only actually as far back in time as Billie Piper's original run is now.
Three men and a woman staring solemnly at what looks like a tin can.
Is this currently the most widely distributed photo from Doctor Who? A 60-year-old shot of four people staring solemnly at a baked beans tin.
Actually, I'm half-expecting it to appear on beans tins.
(Disclaimer: I am super-excited about the recovered episodes and avoiding spoilers like mad.)
"And you're sure you're familiar with chairs and know the correct way to use them?"
"No complications."
I am thoroughly chid. ๐
Caroline John and Jon Pertwee in a scene from Doctor Who.
I would say Ambassadors, but I know others would chide me for such a suggestion.
I'm convinced Space Pirates is in the same space boat as Enemy of the World; the boring episode has survived and being able to see it all would massively raise its reputation. We already know that the music and models are top-notch.
His ITC work is interesting. He's unusually cast in a working-class role in Strange Report, and even more oddly, as a villain's heavy henchman in The Champions. Brilliant as both of course, but neither of them typical Glover roles at all.
If you'll forgive the double negative, there's no missing episode whose return wouldn't spark joy from me. The bits of Reign, Space Pirates part four, Feast of Steven - bring it all on.
HI Jules. I have an album of (old, physical, printed-on-paper) photos from the 1994 Manopticon somewhere.
This sounds like great fun, especially if you've fond memories of the kind of tellies you could place ornaments on.
Piggy de Medici and Gonzo Chaplet.
If Vorshak had diverted some of the crew's eyeliner budget into buying a decent T-Mat, he wouldn't have had any of the hoo-hah he had. Imagine the Sea Devils trying to squeeze the Myrka into one of those dinky booths.
Ah, Web's dates are fixable. Travers isn't senile but he's just had a shock seeing Jamie and Victoria unchanged after decades and already has a lot on his mind, so says "40" when he means "30". Anne is on the money, Web is set in 1965. Yes, before War Machines.
It's Pyramids that's up the spout.
