I’m really confused. The Meadowlands was the best available space for a large stadium and it has a train line that runs directly from Penn Station. FIFA closing the parking lot means NJT has to provide more service than they usually do for events at the stadium.

Where do you think they should have placed a large football stadium in NY? The stadium has a line that run directly from Penn Station to Secaucus Jct where terminates at the stadium. The reason it’s so expensive is because FIFA has required the parking lot to close.

I did. It says only 5 million was provided.

Okay so we agree then.

Only 5 million.

lol uhmm okay so cuts to regular service for the rest of the year is okay?

Yeah it’s really foolish.

The problem isn’t the location of the stadium in NJ. FIFA asked in the last year to close the parking lot, so NJ Transit would have to spend 40 million dollars which would mean cuts to regular for the rest of the year. Which is what is going to happen with SEPTA.

No, this is not a sign of anything better. SEPTA doesn’t have any money. They should be using this money for regular service.

Why would that be better? SEPTA is underfunded and is going to have to pay some 20 million to provide transit for these games, when FIFA is already making 9 billion dollars. That’s why NI Transit has to charge so much. If they didn’t, riders like myself would have to suffer the consequences.

What would be the shock? It maybe a little dirty but SEPTA has decent service to the stadium.

What would that accomplish? I see drivers do the same thing all the time, should we take away car lanes too?

What would this accomplish? Drivers do these same things all the time.

NJ’s latest traffic related death was on RT-1 in S. Brunswick involving a pedestrian. This is the SECOND fatality in S. Brunswick on or “off” RT-1 this week!!!

No details on today’s death, but here’s the one from a few days ago.

The thing with the Jersey City Half/Marathon (as someone running it a 3rd time now) is I wish the course didn’t result in the light rail being completely cut off most of the day.

Also bc of this, the HBLR doesn’t even complete the runs before 6am, so you’re forced to take rideshare to the start.

Well I mean for NJ, it's not the worst thing in the world, there is a direct train line that goes to Penn Station in NY. FIFA is requiring NJ Transit close down Penn Station for fans only, they are the ones who are requiring the parking lot to be closed. So maybe FIFA should pay. 🤷

I had to do that on Thursday at Exchange Pl. That was the second time that's happened to me at that station. My calls were very time consuming.

No citibikes at all today and tonight at Journal Sq. This is really disappointing @citibikenyc.bsky.social

You'll have to ask Tammy Murphy that. NJ Transit did not bid on that World Cup. FIFA just needs to pay up. They're making billions of dollars from these events.

I'm really just fed up lately that lots of otherwise progressive people have decided traffic violence is an issue that we simply cannot address. How can people claim to care about equity and ignore the toll of car dependency?

Parking protected bike lanes seem so vastly superior to the alternative (a strip of paint between parked cars and moving traffic) that I struggle to understand why they haven't been implemented wherever possible.

Doesn't seem to reduce the number of available parking spots, so is it just inertia?

And don't care about the victims and the family's victims.

Omg what a trivial thing to say. What a dishonest way to dismiss our current concerns.

lol I don’t know you would do that ?? 😭

So they will need to contract out and get more buses from third party companies, and it would be unfair to force nj transit to pay for those services, when they will charge NJ way more.

Also, the parking lot is closed because FIFA wanted a security zone. For a regular event, there’s a significant amount of drivers but this event there will not be. So almost everyone will need to be transported. So they will need to use a ton of buses..

But now the Trump has tried to stop it, and they had to be dragged into court. This adds more costs, supplies cost more because his stupid tariff and stupid buy America requirements.

A Republican governor during the Obama era canceled the project between he wanted to posture against « waisteful spending ». The problem, we do not have a choice, it needs to be built. That stunt caused an unnecessary increase in costs when the project resumed during the Biden era.

Honestly it’s not that simple. There is a lot of history at play, and NJ Transit provides an important service to NJ residents. It doesn’t make money just like roads don’t make money.

But here’s something to consider: we desperately need to build a new tunnel between NY and NJ.
