so, sure, we need better local news, we need better national coverage, we need liberals to do more work to communicate, but there's not a ton of evidence that there's an enthusiastic market for this shit in rural america and there's a lot of suggestion that even the idea of it is held in contempt

news media — particularly politics — is about at the poorest state i can ever remember, but rural and cosmopolitan americans have more equal access to that news than at any other point in history, and it is not unreasonable to draw inferences about what each believe based on what they watch and read
