Lately, it’s taking like 5–10 seconds to post something on Bluesky, and sometimes it even fails and I have to try again. Is this the beginning of the end? 😬

Remembering William “Bill” Hrusa William “Bill” Hrusa, 71, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, in Boca Raton, Florida, after a life shaped by intellectual curiosity, devotion to his family and a lifelong love of the water.

Today I learned that Bill Hrusa has passed away. He was a remarkable person, very smart, very kind, and deeply dedicated to education and fostering a bright career for all his students. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

You misunderstand. “Little is known about this” is common parlance for “I didn’t bother to look this up.”

Giraffes are especially funny, but this nerve is present in almost all vertebrates. That’s 400 million years of evolution. That’s what I meant by topology being a bitch to break, given how embryogenesis works. I believe Neil Shubin talks about this in his book “Your Inner Fish.”

Evolution absolutely *sucks* at changing topology. Look up “recurrent laryngeal nerve” for a giraffe.

3. Et hätt noch immer jot jejange.

2. Das haben wir noch nie so gemacht.

3. Da könnte ja jeder kommen.

Star Wars X:

With a sudden jerk Anakin woke up on Tatooine. He had the most bizarre dream about exploding planets, evil armies, and strange cults. “What a nightmare!” he sighed, as his mother gently touched his cheeks. “Waddaja doin’?” screamed Watto. “Get to work! You’re late!”

Your regular reminder that the US had a pain-stakingly negotiated and workable deal with Iran when Trump came to power, but he tore it up. He's now desperately trying to secure a deal much worse than the one he set aside.

Who could have possibly predicted that a bunch of untrained, inexperienced, unqualified, and overconfident ignoramuses would be poor negotiators?

This. Writing is more than the process of putting thoughts on paper. It’s the process of bringing them into being in their fully worked out form. A pen and a piece of paper are a powerful extension of my brain. I’m a better thinker with both of them available.
