Of course, it was made much more disturbing by the fact that I've been listening to the @iwriteok.bsky.social Behind the Bastards episodes about Jimmy Savile. Just kind of adds a layer of horror to the whole thing.

Fuck, Bone Temple is a great flick. Superb acting all around, really cool concepts being examined, looked great, and ended in about the best way it could have. I understand the criticisms of it, but do not agree with them at all.

It was fun seeing a Glen Howerton and Danny DeVito cameo in the middle of the movie, though. I think the acting was either good or fun all around.

...It was really inventive and creative and did so much with so little. It was really interesting watching something so loathsome and so entertaining. Not a recommendation, just an obvservation.

I've avoided watching Crank for... I guess 20 years now because it seemed like the epitome of the ugliness of the mid 2000s. Figured I'd give it a shot tonight, and goddamn if I wasn't right. It's racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, and all around awful. However...

Federal judge unloads on ‘unserious’ RFK Jr., says anti-trans policy showed his ‘cruelty’ Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai vacated the “Kennedy Declaration,” finding it unlawfully attempted to override medical standards and restrict care for transgender youth.

Breaking: HHS’s ban on gender-affirming care is struck down. Rarely have I read a ruling this sharply worded.

“This case is one of a long list of examples of how a leader’s wanton disregard for the rule of law causes very real harm to very real people.”

Great expression on Haru! Hands will always be hard. I could never do them even as close to as well as yours, though.

You too, shushy. You're cut.

That said, as a 15 year video editor I couldn't find 10 minutes to cut out of that movie, let alone 50. So many beautiful shots and so much character development must have been cut out for the theatrical cut. That said, I could not see Guy being anyone other than Matt Berry.

Ok, the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut is not a perfect film. It is gorgeous, outside of the weird FPS thing, but man... Orlando Bloom's character is such a perfect precious little boy. The director's cut makes that work. I can imagine the ass cut just being Bloom's story and it would suuuuuuuuck.

Aw man, I just found out that Sam Kieth died last month. What an incredible artist. RIP, Sam.

Bugonia is a fantastic flick. Probably not for everyone, but if you like off-kilter movies, give this one a go. If you can, avoid reading anything about it other than this post. Fantastic acting, interesting premise, and shot really damn well. The score is great, too!

To Live and Die in LA is a deeply weird movie. Feels like everyone was making acting choices that made sense in some other movie. It was the least Friedkin movie I've seen, except for the insane chase scene. The ADR was distractingly bad at times. I might love this movie.

Fuck, Zone of Interest is so good. A sound design masterpiece. I feel like it's more relevant now than when it was made. Basically a kitchen sink drama about some of the worst people in human history. The last ten minutes or so are brilliant.

By "that" I mean misinformation, just to be clear.

This is a great in-depth look at something that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, yet matters in all the right ways. I feel like the Thief and the Cobbler is one of the most interesting "what ifs" in media, which is why so much misinfo gets spread about it. This is not that.

If you haven't seen Friedkin's "Sorcerer," it's well worth a watch. They don't make movies like that anymore, and that's probably a good thing. Not that the movie is bad, it's fantastic! Just that there are better ways to capture it now, without endangering the lives of everyone involved.

Holy Fuck, No Other Choice is so good. If Park Chan Wook and Bong JoonHo's depictions of South Korea are at all accurate, it seems like a pretty miserable place to live. On the other hand, living under capitalism is pretty universally bad, so it might just be that.

Finally got around to watching I, Robot, and uh... yeah. 10/10. Damn near perfect adaptation of Caves of Steel. Only thing I couldn't get behind was Alan Tudyk as the robot. So unbelievable. Took me right out of the movie. Hope he didn't get cast as a robot in anything else.

“clown event still possible” put that in your pocket, I can already tell you that this is the key phrase of 2026

Ok, so I just watched the Todd in the Shadows video on Macklemore's second album, and I agree. Dude may have been corny, but he was sincere and genuinely tried to make up for the fact that he was a white dude making money in a black space. "White Privilege II" is blunt, but white people need that.

I know this take is cold as hell, but Dog Day Afternoon is a goddamn masterpiece.

Holy shit, I completely forgot that Paul Williams is in Rules of Attraction. What a legendary movie.

Inherent Vice is so goddamn funny. Like, it's a 2.5 hour shitpost (with one harrowing scene), that got a good laugh from me almost every scene. From the acting, to the writing, to the editing and framing, there's a joke hidden everywhere. How many takes were ruined by the names alone?

Holy shit, I was not expecting to love Marty Supreme as much as I did. Great flick, and probably the least cringey of the Safdie movies that I've seen.

I recommend not watching it, though.
