I am in the 'captions always on' generation, sandwiched between the 'hates captions' generation and the 'I want my captions one word at a time' generation.

The temptation would definitely be to go dark, but if they draw down the level of humor too far or, worse, substitute modern cynicism in place of the satire that made up Max's world, it could definitely go deeply awry. I like to think I'd do neither.
My list includes (but is not limited to):
- Thunderbirds (specifically the Are Go era)
- Longyear's Circus World books
- Max Headroom
- John Kendrick Bangs' "A Houseboat on the Styx" (which is long in public domain, so really, there's nothing in my way.)
This is a fantastic development for a good system and a great designer! I can't wait to see everyone diving into the fun!
My recent reread was strongly aided by listening to the 99 Percent Invisible Book Club read of the book. Listening to the related episode after finishing each block was a nice reward.

Certainly makes it likely I'll continue my trend of backing more projects at a digital-only level where shipping costs and delays have less of an impact.
I understand the tight position Kickstarter publishers are in, but it feels odd to put my credit card number into BackerKit for an unknown shipping cost to be paid at some indeterminate date. Will definitely be part of what I take into consideration when I decide whether or not to back projects.
Remember the value of spreading hope
I’ve been lucky to encounter a few famous people randomly on the streets over the years, and gave them the greatest thanks I can offer by saying nothing and letting them get on with their day uninterrupted.
One thing I am learning is that sometimes it's good for me to like and enjoy something without exposing myself to fans of it.
Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

I believe Spencer Crittenden was running D&D for Dan Harmon and his friends on Harmon's Harmontown podcast before then.
I can't stop thinking about how there's so little north of Timbuktu. Mali loneliness epidemic!

a map in miru 3!
the cover of miru 3!
Did you know MIRU was a trilogy? That's right! There's more to the story! And it comes to an end in MIRU 3! (Which is out now!) Can you avenge your brother who was killed by a god while saving everyone who's counting on you?
Close quarter take down. Timber Mouse hurls his hatchet at a Carrion Twig Demon. Work continues on third book of the Gwelf trilogy. More soon. Tally Ho!
That's a heck of a gap to mind.
The nonprofit that runs the successful, Pulitzer-winning Baltimore Banner is going to take over the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Of all the possible outcomes here, this is likely the best we could have hoped for.

Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.

Helioscope, the workspace I share with two dozen other cartoonists, is celebrating its birthday today. 24 years as a studio, 3 buildings, 76 mentees, 1200 etsy orders, & many, MANY thousands of pages of comics. I'll be posting photos in this thread throughout the day. @helioscopepdx.bsky.social
Christina Koch’s facial profile backlit by Earth in the background, through the spacecraft window
So, to sum up, a couple of days ago Christina Koch became the first woman to see Earth in its entirety, and today – right now, in fact – she is the first woman to see the Moon up close, and the first woman to see the far side. 🥹
One of the problems with people not sharing things with attribution, AI etc is that we (rightly) don’t trust things that are real. This picture is making the rounds today and I’ve seen multiple ppl say it is fake. It isn’t!!!!

Panel 1: Count Frankenmummy, a detective who is a vampire and a mummy and also a frankenstein, stands across from a desk in an office. The man behind the desk says "Well, Count Frankenmummy, the bank robbers were described as wearing spacesuits. Any leads?" Panel 2: Count Frankenmummy, puctured from the chest up, replies "MMMBLAH!" Panel 3: the man behind the desk points at Count Frankenmummy and saus "Dammit, I was told that you were the best in the detective field! You're off this case!" The Count replies "MMMMBLAH!" Panel 4: A man standing outside the police station says "Aw, poor Count Frankenmummy! He's not doing so good!" Panel 5: The same man looking over his shoulder, says "I hope he remembers to write down what he wants to say since no one can understand his cryptic monster moanings!" Panel 6: We're back in the office. The man behind the desk is watching Count Frankenmummy write a note. The man says "What's this? You're writing me a note? Did you figure out who robbed the bank?" A "thought bubble" picturing a light bulb rises from The Count's head. Panel 7: A close-ip of the note Count Frankenmummy has written. It reads, in crude handwriting, "YOUR MOMMA"
