Estimates show the 1918 flu epidemic killed about 45,000 US soldiers, about 38% of the total US military deaths in WWI. The flu and its secondary illnesses made up the majority of death by disease. Thousands (possibly as many as 36,000) died before making it from basic training to the battlefield.

The road WhatsApp is abuzz about rats atm and it seems that Henry’s rat extermination habit extended far beyond our immediate neighbours and his absence is noted

Starmer may suffer Trump’s retribution Presidents have prime ministers have fallen out before—but Trump has a habit of retaliating

Presidents and PMs have fallen out before. But Trump—unlike his predecessors—could inflict economic punishment, writes former US ambassador Kim Darroch

I don’t know what the mystery is here - Mandelson was employed because of his Epstein connections and his ability to fit in with the horrendous Trump administration after what happened to Kim Darroch. Starmer took that choice and wanted plausible deniability.

OMFG I had to go and check that this ACTUALLY happened.

Since when does the BBC ever do chyrons with a political party's branding, rather than their own? Not to mention this is during a pre-election campaign purdah.

Not much political judgement going on here if Isabel Oakeshott does not realise that Farage & Tice are senior members of the British establishment. Relevant here is that Oakeshott is the partner of Richard Tice jumping to the defence of Tice & his tax evasion.

Ed Miliband to double down on net zero with measures to combat Iran energy shock As fossil fuel prices soar ‘the era of clean energy security must come of age’, energy secretary will say

There is no politician - and I mean none - who is better-placed than Ed Miliband to get us through this fossil fuel-driven energy crisis.

No-one in politics understands the energy system better. That’s why the billionaire fossil press hate him

Boris Johnson failed vetting, yet Theresa May appointed him Foreign Secretary.

Dominic Cummings was never vetted, yet had free access to Government and Number 10.

The vetting process is self evidently farcical.

BBC Host fakes Epstein interview to help Farage - Mandelson Scandal
BBC Host fakes Epstein interview to help Farage - Mandelson Scandal YouTube video by Femi - F Politics!

Sky & BBC News are weaponising Epstein's victims:

How?

They (rightfully) condemn Starmer for hiring Mandelson, KNOWING he was friends with a convicted abuser.

But never mention Farage backing a convicted abuser as an MP and befriending MANY others.

THIIIIS. Use ai to map genomes, and do the tedious calculator stuff, to free science bods up for SCIENCE. Use robotics to improve people’s lives.

I will be more interested when they make this about prosthetics instead of robots. Show me robotics for humans, not robots in the place of humans doing human things, for the love of god

Keir Starmer must be sacked for employing Mandelson because he thought he was in with Trump, say people who have a ten year history of writing opinions on why Trump is great and we should bend the knee to his every whim.

@pippacrerar.bsky.social is there any chance of reading your own piece to spot the bias. We know you don't like the PM. We also know you are married to the senior comms bod at the Foreign Office. Surely there is a conflict of interest here.

I’m teaching Eddie how to use the talking buttons and he’s definitely got the hang of the Treats one. But I woke up to him this morning pressing Brush (which was really for Lucy), several times and each one having a little grumble afterwards because it didn’t say Treats. So that’s fun!

What if Trump scheduled a press conference and totally came clean.

I lost the election in 2020. I am a pedophile and rapist. I believe people that are rich should just be able to do anything they want to the poor. Grab their pussies. Rape them, beat them, torture them, murder them. It's my right.

My sympathies on this are with Starmer, for a change. This was a political appointment for which he was ultimately responsible. He really should have had all the information made available to him. But Robbins wanted to retain as many of his prerogatives as possible over diplomatic appointments. 2/
