My favorite paperclip that I think almost every blue deck should consider running
Love the idea of paperclips the closest one for me would be Ornithopter of Paradise! It’s perfect in my multicolor decks. It’s not bad in monocolor decks acting as not just a mana dork but also a flying chump blocker. I think a lot more people should consider running it.
I’ve been putting together my first cube and discovered two things:
1. Having 1,000 dragonshields and 1,000 perfect fit inners feels extremely powerful.
2. This printing of this card makes me feel so much, Rebecca Guay truly one of my favorite artists
The white flag, aka the official flag of the Confederacy
Wishing you and yours a very merry Confederate Surrender Day.
I used this card last night to great effect. I cast Swords and my opponent's Commander and they had Deflecting Swat.
It ended poorly for them.
I adore Shirei but stopped playing them since the games were went one of two ways:
I loop everything and the game ends.
OR
They kill Shirei and my game ends.
Absolutely my vibe.
Not sure how I'd end games.
Found the dad joke
Is Muldrotha my vibe? Totally.
Are they a bit too mainstream for my tastes: Yeah.
Active decks:
Dominaria: 3
Lorwyn/Shadowmoor: 2
Avishkar: 2*
Thunder Junction 1* (it's OTJ Kambal, so depends on where he's "from)
Ravnica, Eldraine, Tarkir, Duskmourn, Innistrad, Arcavios: 1
Followers: pitch me a Commander that you think is my vibe.
Sylvok Replica {3} Artifact Creature — Shaman {G}, Sacrifice this creature: Destroy target artifact or enchantment. All the zeal of the Sylvok with only a trace of their conservancy. 1/3 Watermark: Mirran Illustrated by Zoltan Boros & Gabor Szikszai
The folks don't know how good Cankerbloom is.This guy does so much work in various decks - good for Delirium, artifact nonsense, and small for Shirei decks...
Cankerbloom is one of the most messed up 2 drops. It’s a great blocker and it blows up sol ring or other early threats.
Angel is funny because it’s like yeah, go ahead, swing at me. Give me more bones to dig through :3
This humble lil' elk friend gives some ramping and color-fixing to any deck. Definitely not a high-powered card, but cute and versatile:
Freestrider Lookout {2}{G} Creature — Human Rogue Reach Whenever you commit a crime, look at the top five cards of your library. You may put a land card from among them onto the battlefield tapped. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Targeting opponents, anything they control, and/or cards in their graveyards is a crime.) 3/3 Illustrated by Matt Zeilinger
This card does so much work 💜💜💜
If we're going with the cards I put in the most different decks, these would probably be the unique effects I use the most:
Gilded Pinions card from Streets of New Capenna set in Magic: the Gathering. Costs two colorless mana. Artifact — Equipment When this Equipment enters, create a Treasure token. (It’s an artifact with “{T}, Sacrifice this token: Add one mana of any color.”) Equipped creature has flying. Equip {2} ({2}: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery.)
Gilded Pinions has been a go-to in my non-green decks. Checks a lot of boxes: is an artifact, makes a token on etb, provides temporary ramp, and gives your threats evasion (or a chump blocker the ability to chump in the air).
The number of decks I've put this in is frankly unhealthy. Smooths out the early game and provides a voost in mana later on!
Lluwen, Imperfect Naturalist {B/G}{B/G} Legendary Creature — Elf Druid When Lluwen enters, mill four cards, then you may put a creature or land card from among the milled cards on top of your library. {2}{B/G}{B/G}{B/G}, {T}, Discard a land card: Create a 1/1 black and green Worm creature token for each land card in your graveyard. “I know I belong somewhere—just not here.” 1/3 Illustrated by Evyn Fong
Ishkanah, Grafwidow {4}{G} Legendary Creature — Spider Reach Delirium — When Ishkanah enters, if there are four or more card types among cards in your graveyard, create three 1/2 green Spider creature tokens with reach. {6}{B}: Target opponent loses 1 life for each Spider you control. 3/5 Illustrated by Christine Choi
Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper {2}{B}{R}{G} Legendary Creature — Orc Shaman Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, create a 3/1 black and red Graveborn creature token with haste. Karplusan legend told of an orc so cruel that he burned his own followers in rage—yet so revered that they rose from their pyres to serve him. 4/3 Illustrated by Jeff Miracola
Lluwen? Check
Ishkanah? Check
Sek'Kuar? Check
I don’t think he’s a staple, as I’ve ever seen my decks run him. But he’s an absolute menace. Plotting for 4 before slamming him down before a big turn is so fun. Gishath/Pantlaza Dinos, dragons, hydras, the new incrementals too. Never fails me, and I shove him in every green deck.

Alex & I discussing this card:
It's making want to rebuild Savra which is never a good thing.
For my opponents, to be clear.
So hypothetically let's say I was going to rebuild this deck.
What cards spring to mind?
Savra, Queen of the Golgari {2}{B}{G} Legendary Creature — Elf Shaman Whenever you sacrifice a black creature, you may pay 2 life. If you do, each other player sacrifices a creature of their choice. Whenever you sacrifice a green creature, you may gain 2 life. “Nature’s most raw beauty is the circle: perfect in its continuance, with no break between death and life.” 2/2 Watermark: Golgari Illustrated by Scott M. Fischer
Am I going to build this again?
Probably.
Only three?
Killian's Confidence WB Sorcery Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Draw a card. Whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a play you may pay [W/B]. If you do, return this card from your graveyard to your hand.
This card seems sneaky great. Does work with Monastery Mentor and Sedgemoor Witch while also consistently replacing itself.
I don't know where I want to play this card but I absolutely want to run it.
If I ever designed an Invitational Card it would look a whole lot like this...
This little guy fills me with joy every time I see him.
I have him in a hard plastic sleeve as a divider in my cube right now.
