Find Your Words is a heartwarming little day-at-camp adventure in the spirit of A Short Hike!
You begin by selecting one of several children you’d like to play, and then go about meeting your fellow campers. Naya and Tai were my favorites. :) Each camper has a favorite hobby, and you—as a non-speaking camper—use your communication binder of symbols (which you build over the course of the game) to get to know each camper and help them with their projects. Birdwatching was my favorite! Though finding one of those birds proved to be pretty tricky, as I found myself running multiple figure-eight loops around the island’s trails in search of that elusive little guy!
The game vibes are so wholesome and kind. The focus is on acceptance and inclusion. This is emblematic of the developers: two dads who created this game in honor of their own non-speaking children, and generously decided to make their game free for everyone to enjoy and become educated on AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
Find Your Words will take you about an hour to an hour-and-a-half to play through, depending on how much time you spend meandering around the island, snapping screenshots of the scenic views (like I did). :) Achievements are directly tied to the requisite activities, and mostly unmissable, save for a couple. But, there’s an achievements guide available on Steam should you need it, and even after you roll credits, you can pop back into the game, pick up where you left off, and knock out anything you may have missed.
Find Your Words is made by two dads and inspired by their non-speaking kids, which makes it even more special.
(Also thank you alot to my friend, who made me aware of this little gem!!)
In this game, you use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). You arrive at this cute little camp, and you get a book that helps you communicate using pictures. As you explore, you collect more pictures and even get some from the friends, that you meet along the way! You also get from the games you are playing with them. My favorite was the bird watching. 🦉🔭
its just such a sweet and wholesome game. I LOVE that it brings awareness to AAC in such a gentle way.
The game is free, but I ended up buying the DLC to show some support 🤎
The achievements are simple, and the whole game took me about an hour or so.
I can't believe this was released for free, I would've been happy to pay for it.
Okay, so this should be available in schools for young children to play, to learn about neurodiversity, tolerance and inclusion from a young age. If kids are going to be equipped with tablets and stuff when they start school, they may as well have good, educational games, which are also fun and have a range of characters you can choose to play as. Not to mention the range of characters you get to meet.
This game is just... so good, and I so wish tolerance and inclusion was taught to all children from the very beginning; if not from the beginning, as soon as they start school. (It should also be taught to the teachers; that should go without saying.) Games like this one will help with such education.
Was perfect for my tiny human. Kiddo's review is that "it was fun :D". Birdwatching was their favourite minigame.
I recommend this for 3-4 year olds (parent-assisted) or slightly older kids if they want to read it themselves. It's a short game; even at her pace (I read aloud and my kiddo handled the controls), it took 2 hours to 100%. They really enjoyed being able to help the children around the camp, the difficulty was just right and the little "pals!" animation at the end of quest chains made them squeal and clap in delight.
Thank you so much for making this game free to play, and for the highlight on inclusion that is so needed today.
We’d also like to highlight some reviews from Steam! We love them ALL (yes, even the one that simply says “cozy”!) and appreciate everyone who took the time to write something about our precious game. 🥰 It helps us out immensely to reach more folk, so please consider leaving a review if you can!
