In my opinion there are so many more interesting and accurate connections to make between RE9 and war crimes committed by both the US and Japan during and after WWII than the nuke. You also have to square the circle on the hours of power fantasy action that I don't think the piece successfully does

Using Hibakusha and the nuclear bomb as your piece's hook feels like an incredibly surface-level reading of the game and the series as a whole that overlooks who the state actors are, the franchise's ongoing concern with the relationship between public and private entities and the game's victims.

Finished RE9, absolutely amazing. Funny to look back at the Polygon piece and feel like you played a different game than the reviewer though. Not saying you can't tease out a nuke allegory but you have to either put in a lot of work in your writing or overlook a lot of the game to get there.
