Excited to attend the ribbon-cutting for the next segment of California’s solar canal initiative later this month in Hickman. Imagine generating solar power over 4,000 miles or so canals across the state. A lot of Sierra and Colorado River water to save via avoided evaporation.

We can’t be the only ones who can’t wait to tune in to #AGorillaStory on Netflix 🦍
There are still only around 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the wild. But, thanks to incredible conservation efforts, their numbers are on the rise.
The story of this incredible species isn’t over yet.

What!? Apparently one of the adaptations that queen bumblebees use to survive flooding during winter diapause is slowing their metabolisms so much they can respire UNDERWATER for up to a WEEK. They also accompany aquatic respiration with anaerobic metabolism. I'm stunned. What superstars! #虫 🧪🌎

In my latest dispatch from Planet Ficus, I wrote about new research that has revealed a previously unknown phenomenon taking place in forest canopies. The findings are striking. planetficus.substack.com/p/seventeen-... 🧪🌏
Text title reads ‘Kenya's Tsavo West Rhino Sanctuary now the largest in the world.’ A young rhino calf in the mud with mother behind. The calf faces straight to the lens as it stands in the mud, its body muddy from being submerged, the outline of the mother behind is just visible.
A big win for black rhinos. 🦏 👏
The recently established Tsavo West Rhino Sanctuary now provides 3,200km² of rhino habitat, hugely expanding the existing 92km² Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary.
This positive step will help encourage population growth with hopes to increase no’s in Kenya to 2,000 by 2037. 💚

'The state’s forests will dry out a month earlier than usual...Gleick said, which increases the risk of wildfires.
“It could be a very bad fire year...rivers + streams are going to dry out sooner, + that has bad implications for natural ecosystems + our fisheries.”'
“Catalytic converters have removed 8 billion tons of pollution from the air in the U.S. They have saved hundreds of thousands of lives and led to the removal of a deadly neurotoxin, lead, from the atmosphere.”
