This Saturday there will be a protest outside the Surprise warehouse. Multiple people were talking about organizing a recall campaign against Mayor Sartor. “He’s so getting fucking recalled,” a woman near me said as he rushed out of the meeting.

The room held a moment of silence for those murdered in these ICE concentration camps. An official came out and said the council members would not be returning and the meeting is adjourned.

Mayor Kevin Sartor packed up his briefcase so fast and rushed out of the room, but the protesters demands were for the video feed to be restored, for the council to allow full public comment again, and for the council to call a town hall over the concentration camp.

Brent Peak, the co-chair of the NorthWest Indivisible chapter stood up and interrupted the meeting. The majority of the audience joined him chanting “this is where we take a stand, no ICE concentration camps” and stood in front of the council, who promptly rushed out of the room.

Councilmember Chris Judd says he’s “going to submit a formal recommendation to the head of DHS that they follow the state law and our local ordinances to not expand residential use in the zone around Luke Air Force Base” (where the proposed concentration sits). Cheers from the crowd.

Last month, the council also cut public comment off after an hour. The live feed was also limited to audio. Folks have been condemning the council for this and it seems they’re limiting public comment even more tonight. Also, the live feed is still just this, both online and in the overflow room.

Those in the audience are holding up signs and pieces of paper that read “cowards” for the council’s refusal to put an action item on the agenda.
