Got. Need!
Because it’s a wholly musical recording all the explanation is contained in the included leaflet. John Levy’s notes are dated April 1968 and i reckon it was released in October.
REGL 1 is the first Radio Enterprises Gold Label release. The matrix number is re21. So, the next release, The Importance of Being Hoffnung REB 21, has to budge up and take matrix re22, and the madness of catalogue numbering gets worse from there.
Ni hao!
I’ve been meaning to get around to Chinese Classical Music REGL1, 1968 for some time now. I’m picking off the early releases and this is a key one from ‘68. John Levy is your guide to the ch’in, p’ipa, hsiao, and the chen.
There are examples of Koch’s recordings all over the BBC Records wildlife output and this is one of two dedicated to him, but also the first in the Wildlife series.
A salute to Ludwig Koch

Thanks. I also need to fix my certificates.
Catalogues!
I’ve added the two latest acquisitions and fixed all the issues with my catalogues page, which has been broken for a long time.
Each one I own is available to flick through like real leaflet!
Still plenty more to find and scan in.

The Belfast Telegraph had something to say about that, too: ‘not the most usual description of the province these days’.
John Gillbe designed many of the early BBC sleeves and seems to have painted several. His wife was co-credited on Blessed The World That Sings (REC 24) and he was responsible for the dissolving ribbons of magnetic tape on BBC Radiophonic Music (REC 25).
I just saw that the sleeve art for Ulster’s Flowery Vale (REC 28) was up for auction in February. No credit, but it must be by John Gillbe, who designed the sleeve.
The Belfast Telegraph said it was ‘a “twee” design for American tourists’. I’d have bid though. £35

Plus! A bit of clarity on when BBC Radio Enterprises appeared as a brand for licensing purposes (hint: at the same time that the label started releasing records).

For the long weekend, after a long hiatus, a long-ish blog post!
I've made a modest breakthrough on the very first releases on the BBC Radio Enterprises label in 1967. The first news of BRE, the news of the label and, finally, proof of release dates.

The record contains instructions on how to make a hit broadway musical based on Illuminatus!
Anniversaries! Okay! 😄
Ah! I don’t quite get the joke, because I’ve never understood that number thing 🙄but when I saw it I thought it seemed familiar to that account.
I’ll go figure!
Pardon, Alan?
