I'm constantly fascinated and impressed by the work that Olivia @missoliviareads.bsky.social and Taran are doing at UWTSD - librarianship on the frontline, making an important difference to their local community, with passion, empathy and humour. @uksg.bsky.social
I really enjoyed learning about "night science" from Isaac Wink's post - what might we miss as AI makes us more directional and less serendipitous in our discovery?
V excited about the pace at which this project is growing both in terms of sponsors and in terms of progress already being made. Ping me charlie@growkudos.com if your org needs to know what to do next in terms of zero-click search, answer-engine optimization, gen-AI optimization
Countdown is on - just 9 days left to register for #UKSG2026. Everyone can learn something from the programme and everyone can benefit from the unique opportunity to build relationships with people across the information community. Register now! www.uksg.org/events/confe...

@simonmayo.bsky.social I literally did set all my radio presets to @greatesthitsuk.bsky.social b/c of different frequencies when travelling between Oxford / Reading / London / Devon *AND the engine management light went off* π² Maybe not a more streamlined journey but there's definitely a GHR effect!
The latest from #UKSGInsights Peter Barr (@tweeterbarr.bsky.social) re: @unisheffieldlib.bsky.social "The collections concept at the University of Sheffield: a varied approach to the role of research library collections" dub.sh/bKwiJWt
Are you interested in shaping the future of UKSG? Stand for election as a Trustee! Be like @charlierapple.bsky.social :)
Excellent factoids today thank you @simonmayo.bsky.social for the DownEaster Alexa lesson! Wonderful wonderful track, fascinating to learn about why boats were thus named, and .. Itzhak Perlman!!! Can't believe I never knew that. Was too young for sleeve notes when it came out!
Last 2 days to get your application in for a free place (incl travel & accommodation) at this year's UKSG. The programme is amazing - so much learning packed into a tight schedule, and a great opportunity to get to know others tackling the same challenges. Apply by Sunday! Hope to see you there! π
@simonmayo.bsky.social Brunswick .. 1972 .. it's got to be..
Thank you @kokedit.bsky.social !

Thank you π
I've written in the @scholarlykitchen.bsky.social today about the project I'm launching to determine how the scholarly and medical communication sectors (publishers, platforms, repositories, websites in general!) can / should respond to the threat of zero-click search π
V exciting project. I'll be gathering user insights, search data, and examples from across multiple sectors on how zero-click search is affecting scholarly; what we can do to attract & retain quality traffic (AEO / AIO); how we reshape "what counts". Message me if you would like to join this study π
I've posted themes and thoughts from the @UKSG #UKSGForum2025 in today's Scholarly Kitchen - scholarlykitchen.sspnet.org/2025/12/15/i...
Changing priorities: from global to local?- Keeping up and keeping order - A matter of trust - AI (of course) - and The continued importance of human relationships
What does good look like in AI adoption for a university? Great overview at #UKSGForum2025 from @mark-h-cymru.bsky.social
Is that the one that starts with you walking down the street? Are you just trying to trick me into having that open on my browser again for months?! "The internets. Voiced by Beth!" #UKSGForum2025
@missoliviareads.bsky.social and Taran Johal from U Wales TSD Birmingham at #UKSGForum2025 Wider role of the library in information literacy and digital literacy now extending to AI literacy - keeping up with the fast-moving baseline that is helping students progress into the world of work.
Thank you for a new term, Amanda Halpin from DCU - "cafΓ© journals" - now that's the creme de la crema of what publishers want their content to be categorised as! Ho ho. But seriously - presumably that's the most popular ones?! That literally get shelved in the cafΓ©? #UKSGForum2025
How do you merge 4 libraries' collections? In a word, spreadsheets. (Amanda Halpin, Dublin City University library). I'm sure @drbeth.bsky.social will have a jumper to offer as illustration! #UKSGForum2025
We laugh but it is an important point. Librarians are EXPERTS. Never underestimate the importance of those "vibes". "We know the reading lists, we know the collection" Steph Gibson, U Suffolk at #UKSGForum2025
Big laugh of recognition and empathy at #UKSGForum2025 for Steph Gibson talking about limited systems and resources at U Suffolk. "No reading list management system - have a combination of Word docs and Sharepoint. We have to make decisions based on "usage data and vibes"." π
Fantastic opening of #UKSGForum2025 by @godwyns.bsky.social. "Without context, data is superficial, incorrect, even harmful"; "We need to be more intentional about involving communities" and "bring [data] to life with storytelling" - "Libraries are the bridge between academia and communities" β₯οΈ
Such a example from @missoliviareads.bsky.social in response to @godwyns.bsky.social. As my local primary's SEND Governor I so frequently see super impressive progress and amazing achievements, by pupils and by teachers and TAs, that is just completely unrecognised by "the data". #UKSGForum2025
#UKSGForum2025 How community engagement can make an impact and the power of "the bigger picture" not just what the data says. The library as a "community centre of knowledge" - what a mesmerising keynote from @godwyns.bsky.social to start this day!
Charlie pointing out that not everyone shares the same point of view π It's the thing I love about this conference. #UKSGForum2025
