Of course, unlike the one on Sodor, this was a short tramway to transfer aluminum from the nearby aluminum works (another parallel!) to the harbor, with rather cute little engines.

I like how Awdry got inspired by the real world also. Like, just recently I learned that there was a dam in Scotland (I think) that had an early electric railway serving it, just like the electrified line to Peel Godred.

I think Awdry being like, in canon, a real dude who has connections and visits the railways makes a lot of sense cause that’s also just who he was in real life. Bro was a Reverend, a volunteered on some heritage lines, and traveled a lot. Of course he visits Sodor in his off time

Duck stares out at a packed street from his shed, early in the morning. Even though it’s winter time, the off season for the coastal Little Western, the entire road down to Tidmouth seems packed.

The Gala in the sheds. It’s packed, full of people from all over, covered in decorations, ceiling to floor, wall to wall. Duck, who has banners cross his tanks, is across from Thomas, a concerned look on his face as he stares at the little blue engine. Perhaps Thomas seems uncomfortable…

I say this to bring up how curious it is that the, as far as I know, ONLY railway we don’t know *what* kind of engines ran it before the modern day is the Peel Godred line. We know almost every engine that ran each line before the NWR existed even, but not the early peel godred engines #RWS #TTTE

The Peel Godred Branchline has always been run by Electric Engines (the grades are too steam for steam engines to pull heavy trains) but the line was constructed in 1923, and the only locomotives we know of that have run the line were made *way* after the 1930s
