Some members of my doctoral cohort are super “wait until course evaluation time” & it GIVES ME THE ICK.
We’re all professional educators; you can’t send an email / set up a conference to explain why things aren’t working for you? BE AN ADULT.
And yes, they are.

If the ID I use to drive and fly, it’s not enough to vote, that’s voter suppression and a poll tax

Oh good, you're awake. Welcome to America, the year is 2026 and we're setting oil on fire until gas gets cheaper
Eid Mubarak 🎉🎉🎉
Ramadan has officially ended. Eid Mubarak! Hoping that we take the lessons of Ramadan into the year and that we offer more compassion to each other and commit to lessening suffering how we can.
I just made myself sad - I was thinking it'd be nice for Eid to do something new & make a little signal boost post for Muslim artists and writers and developers and creators, and then I hesitated because I know there's a real risk and threat in making a nice easy-to-collate list of Muslim creators.

I genuinely cannot believe the degree to which we are pissing away this generational breakthrough, even given the fuckmuppets who are involved www.nbcnews.com/health/healt...
Friends from Minneapolis reporting to me that things are at the point where folks are being hidden in other people's houses and we are in the "again" part of "never again" which the "never" was supposed to preclude
"She’s still there, waiting for safety.
Waiting for softness.
Waiting for someone to finally say,
“It’s okay. You don’t have to hold this anymore.”"

I also recommend turning off automatic updates.
Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.
Asking because the use of "occupation" seems odd to me when there are clear examples of U.S. occupation worldwide. There are clear threats of U.S. occupation right now.
Genuine curiosity.. is it occupation if its our own federal government and ICE agents who are part of the same communities they are oppressing? Or is this the Jim Crow era policies people voted for?
Photograph from 1911 taken by Herbert Ponting whilst with Scott's Antarctic Expedition The monochrome photo is taken from within a cave. The walls of the cave are made of ice. The cave entrance is in the mid distance with two figures standing looking out towards a distant ship. Between them and the ship there is first a 'beach' of ice before the sea itself. The ship could be up to 800 metres away What makes the photo so special is that where the figures are at the cave entrance there is a band of very white snow and ice (contrasting with the comparatively dark inside of the cave) that creates a stark framework in which the men and the ship are captured. It is made even more dramatic by the fact that the cave entrance is at least 30 metres high and is in the shape of a distorted elipse with the tail sloping off to the right at the top of the elipse The photo being in monochrome in a largely white environment makes the photographers skill all the more laudable
This photo was taken in 1911 using glass plate technology by Herbert Ponting who was part of Scott's Antarctic expedition,
The composition and detail are exquisite with the band of white snow/ice creating a perfect frame around the two people and the ship in the distance
Iconic imo
So working as designed then.
At one point today, there were 283 Minnesota attorneys doing a training on how to file emergency habeas petitions to keep our neighbors from being shipped out of state and held indefinitely.
That would be the second largest law firm in the state. And that training was just put together this week.
My Mexican neighbors sometimes play music well into the early morning hours. My academic colleague commented that I should call the police on them. I said, I'm an abolishinst. Thier response, "couldn't be me" and this is how mental health providers can uphold oppression.
I'm shocked by the business as usual vibes conferences and overall higher education is continuing.
Pinning your hopes on police orgs breaking with ICE is not sound thinking.

DOJ is still violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act.
Hannity has a Fox reporter in Minneapolis talk to a random protester walking through the city who goes on to spit bars for 2 minutes
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hearing people say the "left" lacks institutional power gives me the ick. They want us to believe they are different while they all give us the same solutions that keeps us stuck in hell.
I'll take mornings page. Anything over people telling us all their thoughts. It's okay to keep some things to yourself
I don't know who needs to hear this, but cops are not allowed to shoot people just because you didn't do what they said.
That is called murder when they do that.
Some cops are working hard to convince people otherwise.
I started protecting my peace early by blocking people when they were coming from the other app. Internet strangers will not frustrate me.
Everything about today feels like 2020 again... Everyone is sick, and the police/ICE are killing people. The only difference is that people have stopped calling things "unprecedented" because we've already seen this play.
