We have some letters that my grandfather sent my grandmother during his service and those were illuminating. We also have some letters to my MG from his brothers in the Army around that time.

That’s awesome! As my parents age I’m also hearing random stories that I’ve never heard before. But I only know about one grandfather because some family drama is a generational trait (my dad’s dad served in the pacific)
I had seats over the visitors’ bullpen more than 20 years ago when they were playing the O’s and had the pleasure of seeing and hearing Elrod Hendricks talking shit to all of the hecklers.
I had to doublecheck to make sure that there wasn’t anything missing off of the dolly! Also happy early birthday!
Congratulations!!!
Malleteers are awesome! Also hadn’t realized that Blount was Machine but not surprised - just interesting that the college named after him seems to spawn more Malletteer-types (at least a decade or so ago)
They did an encore and I was still out of there by 9pm. I love this band in so many ways:
This crowd for the Old 97’s show is so on-brand and I love it.
If nothing else, we need to mention the number of concussions they’ve had!
I know that Michigan is a bad example because they’ve had high tuition for a while, but their out of state is also over 60k for tuition and fees. Maryland is over 40k. I also think amount of aid varies a lot, unfortunately. That’s why some kids I know are looking more closely at private schools
It can vary wildly from state to state! And that’s even before room and board for students who want to (or are required to) live on campus.
That is impressive!
Um, what are his priorities (this week)?
I’m glad! I’m currently dealing with both parents having surgical procedures in relatively close timelines, so that is something. I’m so very (not) happy about the incredible decline of rural healthcare in my lifetime.
Oh I feel this SO very much. Sending some healing vibes your way!
I wfh for several years pre-pandemic and I built some routines into my day where I had to get dressed in the morning and go outside of my place. There were only some days where I had calls so attire wasn’t much of a concern. And I always put in my contacts.(This was academic-adjacent)
I’ve never learned the art of sarcasm in person and on social media, so clearly this didn’t take.
And eminent domain only applies to some people’s property
A little confused about the BBQ part of Maryland’s entry but I’m from a town that has an annual muskrat cookoff, so I can’t say that part is wrong.
It’s nice to learn that my lack of pain after surgeries is a family trait and not an anomaly. (Mom had surgery yesterday and even though it wasn’t the kind where they automatically prescribe narcotics for pain she didn’t even need tylenol.)
Gorgeous!
I’ve been wanting to go on a full story Baltimore tour! Just curious, which one did you take?
Boooooooo! I’m so sorry Anon. If there’s anything I can do lmk!
Always has been!
Is this something that you are also experiencing with the young person in your life or are you curious just because?
Today I found out that my soon-to-be 10yo nephew has started collecting business cards and I can’t wait to ask about this.
I think it would be great to have a regular flower delivery, but like so many things in my current life/work setup I can’t figure out what I want to do. Maybe I should have them delivered to work every month and let everyone assume I have an attentive beau 🤣
There are so many!! Even the DC housing police have their own vehicles. One day I counted around 10 different police agency vehicles on my walk between my metro stop and the office.
I may be too independent these days because I would love having a private pool!
Librarians are a thing and law librarians are an entirely different subset of that thing. So very fascinating.
