This excellent article "The Science of How COVID Spreads" expands on how institutions have resisted knowledge of airborne disease transmission for more than 100 years, basically because it's inconvenient to deal with.

Thirty percent of all hospitals in Oregon now refuse to provide lifesaving medical treatment to trans people. Not just gender affirming care to minors. They discriminate against ALL Trans people.

Did you know that the NY State Comptroller has the power to act in ways that would not only freeze utility prices but actually *lower* them?
@drewforny.bsky.social knows how to use the power of the office to make this happen; read his op-ed to learn why and how. And plan to vote for Drew this June.

I'm a Jewish candidate for New York comptroller. Our state must divest from Israel bonds
It is time to stop investing in a government that acts in contradiction to our people's deepest values
One of the most powerful acts NYS' government could take to advance the BDS movement? Divest its $368M in Israel bonds.
Who has the power to do so? The NYS Comptroller. And who's the only candidate who would do so asap? Drew Warshaw.
Vote @drewforny.bsky.social in June.

Small red and green lettuce plants popping up around a snapdragon plant in a raised bed.
Xanthippe (brown tabby cat) sniffing the air. Behind her, there’s a rosemary plant, strawberry jar with oregano and lavender plants, a rhubarb plant in a teal pot, a currant bush, and a green raised bed which currently has its protective plastic off. There’s also a trellis planter surrounded by hardware cloth.
Seedlings have gotten big since I’m growing them under greenhouse plastic—also to keep the cats from stomping on them!

Oh cool! I love the ability to grow heirlooms and specialty plants from seed. I got into house plants in 2020 , tend to favor dramatic variegated foliage, and since last year I’ve been growing edible plants on my patio! Lots to learn with every passing year of gardening.

of course, it’s fun and means a lot to me! I’m sure we’ll do more, so maybe you can make the next one! What type of plants are you into?

Photo of the setup of last year’s swap. Come Forever is in a garage space with an open-air front. On the table, there are runner bean and tomato starts, self-watering containers, baby succulents, and cuttings from various berry bushes.
My partner Rubi (wearing a black KN95) and Come Forever organizer Exx (wearing a 3M Aura N95) are inside the space :)
Access info:
Come Forever is a ground floor space with no stairs, a wide door, and a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Wheelchairs can access the entrance by entering the sidewalk via a curb cut at the corner of S 5th and Hewes St, approximately 200 feet from the Come Forever door. Masks are required while inside of the space and KN95 and N95 masks are available on site. Events that offer food do so outdoors in open air. Please DM or email Come Forever with accessibility accommodations or questions.

thinking about the analogy between being being a dedicated mask-wearer and being vegan. Complicating logistics of eating with others, potentially seen as preachy, people having a “good for you, but I could never” attitude. Fostering special spaces that cater to those needs and values.
