Wasn't that the plot of 2061 by Arthur C Clarke? Haven't read it in a long time.

Today's a great day to support some creators.
Writers and artists and creatives of all sorts: reply with a link to one of your works, if you'd like. And feel free to tell us about it.
Everyone: let's check through the replies and buy some creations and support some human beings.
I write modern sci-fi pulp stories. I have a noir detective series set on a generation ship, and a western set on that ship's ultimate destination. Lots more stories in both, and other series, to come!
Even the much hated off-screen deaths of Hicks and Newt seem more reasonable because we see the shuttle crashing into water, or maybe I've just gotten over it.
I still think Alien & Aliens are better, but not by nearly as much as before.
It feels like a Fincher film in its exploration of the dark side of humanity and that makes its overall dark tone more relevant. The only thing I preferred about the theatrical cut was the xenomorph gestating in a dog rather than an ox–its speed and agility were more realistic with a dog.
The inmates, who are just random bald guys running around tunnels in the theatrical, really get differentiated here, creating a much more compelling story. Their attempts to fight the xenomorph aren't nearly as incompetent.
Alien 3: the Assembly Cut cover with xenomorph
After hearing about the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 for years, I finally got the chance to watch it on HBO Max. I was skeptical that adding a few deleted scenes here and there would really polish this turd, but it's incredible how it completely changes the movie!

Excerpt from novelette CURVES AND COMPLICATIONS by Ed Robins “You won’t… you won’t hurt him?” “Darling, I’m gentle as a kitten.” “You forget that I’ve seen your claws, Mr. Devoe.”
Finished the first draft and revision of CURVES AND COMPLICATIONS, a #hardboiled novelette. Well... no end yet... does it really need one? 🤔

I was reading a different new author last night, and the humanisms were so realistic that it also felt fresh. And the dialogue! Both funny and believable. I really gravitate toward authors with that kind of writing, and I appreciate it even more in the (sadly-growing) age of AI slop 😑
Come to the Dark Side: Why We Love Mysteries
Mysteries deal with difficult emotions: violence, fear, betrayal. But they do it in a contained structure.

"In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move."
Looks interesting! I'll have to check it out.
noir wedding cake
I read I, ROBOT and the first FOUNDATION. I found them underwhelming. Really need to give it a shot, admittedly, but Asimov may just not be for me. ☹️
What's a classic book in your genre (or subgenre, if you like!) that you've never read?
Or, if you're a reader/reviewer rather than writer, a book in your favourite genre you haven't read?
That'd be Asimov's CAVES OF STEEL for me.
You're lucky! My dogs refuse to go out if there's even a hint of a storm no matter how much they need to pee.
I’m old enough to remember caramel before the Great Saltening.

Oooooooooo... now this is exciting news! Brad Bird doing a #scifi #noir! And he's working on INCREDIBLES 3 as well.

Throwing my back out while sleeping.
I drink far too much coffee, but caffeine has never had much of an effect on me.
First movie I remember seeing in the theater was THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Han Solo getting tortured traumatized me.

Cite the deep magic to me, witch. I was there when it was written, but died of dysentery on the way to Oregon.
Peroneal tendon also quite vulnerable to dislocation. Ask me how I know.
