a little out of the norm, but i made this snow miku card to trade at miku expo

went to the comic store in the Chicago loop and they had a deal where you could get a blind bag of independent trade paperbacks for $10 and that was genuinely such a genius idea I’m insanely jealous that my local places don’t do that
if you own a comic book store in northeast Ohio start taking notes

also I guess I’ll append to this that if calling it light theory and thinking of it in that way genuinely helps you then that’s good! keep doing that! I have lots of my own terms for things lol
I think the problem starts when we use these terms to over literalize the process of making art

anybody can observe and anybody can represent what they observe thru art
theories and principles are just tools you use to parse what you’re observing for your animal brain to be able to recreate it
that’s the beauty of art we’re tricking ourselves with interpretations of what our mind files away

idk I think I’m just jaded about how much art communication seems to rely on clickbaiting you about secret techniques and theories, it makes art and art principles seem a lot more obscure than they actually are
most artists don’t have secret knowledge they’re just good observers

(obviously that’s wrt ART, of course we have a scientific light theory and descriptions of how light works and etc. “color theory” isn’t really a mathematical truth as much as it is social and historical principles, we use it to apply and describe the technical use of color in art)

“light theory” I get confused by because… what’s the theory?? I think the term “light and shadow” is used a lot more in art education because it describes what you’re observing and how to replicate it
we have specific terms for different phenomena but idk if we have one definitive “light theory”

wrt “color theory” we call it that because we use it to describe colors, you’ll see the term umbrella many things but it’s usually abt the application instead of the observation
you can put these colors together and they’ll look good, we can categorize colors and color relationships this way, etc

on the other hand I’ve started seeing the alternative of this, where people are using specific technical terms for things to make them sound way more rigid than they are

avoiding spoilers for those who haven’t seen it but I will say, as somebody who does not believe in ghosts and does not really find them scary: that movie will make you afraid of ghosts like just about nothing else
if I had to compare its handling of ghosts to one thing it would be ringu

talk to me (2023) has probably my favorite interpretation of possession and ghosts in anything because of how it rejects the idea of an "evil" spirit
it draws you in with familiar conventions as a way to lull you into a false sense of security when the reality it poses is so much more fucked up

robot quality is very subjective but, as an example of my personal principles, amazing screw on head is a sexy design. ultron is an unsexy design. Cherno Alpha is sexy. Omega is unsexy. weighing these on your personal Anubis scale is how you develop the philosophy of your life.

I am not a robofucker myself but a) i would never shun them as they carry any mecha community on their backs like the world turtle and b) I do personally rate the quality of robot designs based on how sexy or unsexy they are
