I know for a fact they followed the same approach for when it came to depicting autistic people, and I suspect they also reached out to an advocacy group for fat people, as medical practitioner bias against them is something the show has called out in both seasons.

So my understanding is that The Pitt's creative team reached out to a bunch of different advocacy groups when they were in pre-production, asking them what they'd like to see in terms of representation. When they asked trans people what they wanted to see, that's exactly what they asked for.
