It’s a challenge and refreshing. With the littles, I have to be creative and meet them at their level/comprehension. Forces me to be more concise with my interventions which helps me when I coach the high schoolers.

Fortunate to earn USSF badges and learned about #TOVO. Just finished third season as assistant coach for boys high school program.

Now coaching at club’s foundation phase (U6-U8). Love helping the littles and new parent volunteer coaches learn and enjoy football!

Started my grassroots football coaching journey on my son’s U14 club team. Plan was to serve as asst. coach but head coach withdrew; club director asked me to step in. 😳

Many lessons learned as the team matriculated through U19. Great group of kids and assistant coaches.

I’m hopeful there will be more soccer and soccer coaches coming here

Rethink Coaching Points As I set out to the pitch, I can approach my role as one who needs "to correct" the errors. As one who needs "to fix" the many problems. In fact, many coaching licenses actually look to freeze play to make corrections. All well and good, but that sets me up looking for failure. And thus, I will find it and the children will know exactly what my points are about - their failure. Over and over. Consider celebrating success. Go out and look for the smallest action that is wonderful. Look for the child who shows resilience, ambition, or respect and applaud her. Children need to understand exactly what you are looking for so they can internalise that behaviour or action and replicate it. We suggest you looking for any positive moment relative to the principles or concepts of the day and to share with the children your delight and pride in seeing them give the best of themselves, whatever that best may be.
