And as NYT reports, while the Hormuz energy shock is hitting Asia hardest it won't stop there: "tsunamis—they go across the ocean very, very fast...I find it breathtaking to see the degree to which American policymakers think that they are insulated.”

Everyone's focused on fluctuating oil prices, but we should be paying just as much attention to how this could push millions back into food insecurity and poverty.
There’s a real disconnect in anglosphere discourse because a lot of it centres in the US where people aren’t seeing Chinese EVs at all, while much of the rest of the world is
Doctors are in dire need of education about the risks. Just 11% of medical schools worldwide incorporate any mention or treatment of air pollution risks in their curricula.
Which is wild considering 99 percent of children worldwide are exposed to air pollution levels above WHO recommended limits.

Asia was supposed to be an enormous growth market for LNG.
Not anymore. Shortages, spiking prices, massive uncertainty. Asia is moving to renewables instead

Americans prioritize protecting the environment over economic growth, according to Gallup.

Soaring prices, shortages of supplies and the near-total loss of air travel in the Middle East had led to a drop in demand that was almost unprecedented in its speed and severity.

In a first last month, renewables supplied more power to the U.S. than natural gas, a milestone in the shift to clean energy.
Glaciers had one of their worst years in 2025:
👉 408 billion tonnes of ice mass lost
👉 ≈1.1 mm added to global sea levels
👉 6 of the 7 worst years have happened in the past 7 yrs
Since 1975: ~9,600 billion tonnes gone (≈26.4 mm SLR)
This isn’t a gradual change...

Natural Allies has been diligently wooing Democrats to embrace the gospel of gas for a while now.
Their work is a lot easier today than it was 3 years ago, when I wrote about them in the final chapter of my book GASLIGHT. Back when methane's brand was "on the wane."
Even if the Strait opens tomorrow (not likely), the thesis of my NYT piece from two weeks ago still holds. This energy shock will change everything because alternatives to fossil fuels — solar, wind, batteries, EVs etc — are so cheap, widely available ready to scale.

It's wild to watch global fossil fuel demand destruction unfold in real time. That demand isn't gonna bounce back, folks.
Trump has demonstrated to *everyone on the planet* the risks of fossil fuel dependence in a single, tragic, blundering stroke. "Ironic" doesn't begin to describe this situation.
"Even if the fighting ends for good—a big if—the hit to energy prices is likely to be long-lasting. Shipping delays will further hold back supplies, as will damage to key energy facilities in the Gulf. Crude oil prices likely won’t return to prewar levels before the end of 2027..."

Denying these ships access to the Gulf (of St. Lawrence) is the only way to protect Vermont's syrupy leverage over the global economy.
Hold on now...whose ships are coming to get our maple syrup??

ExxonMobil and other fossil fuel giants funded an illegal black ops outfit that spied on and attacked climate scientists for years, now one of their operatives has been apprehended and is being extradited back to New York. The fossil fuels industry, however, remains untouchable.
This is a remarkable historical document.

GFS map of temperature anomalies over the contiguous USA for March 21, 2026.
We need to talk a bit about how utterly absurd the March heatwave was in the USA.
This heatwave would have been impossible without a boost from climate change, but even with climate change it remains a deeply unlikely event.
A thread looking at some of the numbers.
