Man I miss these, it’s insane to me that the Sony stopped supporting fully dynamic themes like this when they released the PS5.

We have the old animated pilot attempt, but yeah that’s the furthest it got.
Interestingly, it seems that the project was solely a Disney attempt with no involvement from Square, which makes me wonder if there’s a deeper story hidden there that explains why this hasn’t been attempted again.

NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO USE COMMAS, AND IT KILLS ME

I read so many lines that are like

"Well I think we should go to the next objective. What do you think player?"

What’s your low-stress, low-prio pet peeve in video games? Ex: For my old boss, it was nonsensical titles on books in the background.

Mine is plants placed where plants could definitely not live. She needs a window or a grow light!! She needs to eat!!!!

I don’t know why it’s now a controversial opinion to say that in order to be a fan of something you should engage with the media instead of just looking up YouTube reviews or summaries on Wikipedia?

I think we need to celebrate the death of Sora a bit more. This is a technology that, just MONTHS AGO, we were being told was going to literally destroy Hollywood and Disney was going to give them a BILLION DOLLARS and NONE OF THAT EVEN REMOTELY HAPPENED

Sora, the protagonist from Kingdom Hearts, poses with a peace sign over the grave of a bad computer program. It's also called "Sora," I think, but it's so unimportant it's barely worth mentioning.

Well, the internet as we know it today wasn’t really a *thing* until after those games came out. Online video was pretty terrible and egregiously slow to buffer until YouTube, and that didn’t really pick up until *after* KH2 had released.

Spent time today updating my Unreal Engine 5 environment.

Reworked some meshes, added the new substance designer materials I've worked on.

Still playing with foliage and trying to do something different with it. Trees alpha cards will get updated soon as well.

zbrushing Rocks tomorrow.

I think I'd rather play a game the way artists designed it to look

a resource-intensive feature that nobody asked for which solves no known problem AND is functionally not just useless, but actively makes the product worse?

There’s a quote from a book I read often when I was younger: “it’s such a pointless unhappiness.”

I think about that a lot with the state of things in the US right now. It’s so miserable, and so pointless.

Theories and "expectations" have had a nasty impact on culture.

They just set people up to get mad when the story the artist tells doesn't line up with whatever people imagined based off "patterns" that don't really mean anything.

Wait for the end, enjoy the ride, and let a story be what it is.

And honestly E33’s initial launch kinda proved that AI doesn’t adequately fulfill the purpose of being a placeholder because ideally, placeholders should be obvious so they get replaced before ship. If the placeholder *at a glance* could pass enough that it gets missed, it failed at its job.

"AI has long been part of gaming and will continue to be" is so heckin disingenuous. I've been a game AI engineer for almost 20 years, which has absolutely nothing to do with the current bubble of generative AI that is burning the world to solve no actual problems.

"I don't get as much engagement here as on twitter"

that's all fake bud. sorry. twitter is so fake at this point it's asinine people even pretend it isn't. Before late 2024 the biggest posts on the site got like 10k retweets, now every other post about hating women gets 250k and 7m likes. not real.

You know AI is really good at replacing hollywood when they fail to replace hollywood and resort to a traditional hollywood pipeline to continue bragging about AI replacing hollywood.

I think about this a lot, especially in the context of online posts discussing the newest entry of a big franchise going “I wish team A made this instead of team B.”
With how volatile the game industry is, it’s almost inevitable that a studio is comprised of very different people after 5-10 years.

Why chasing twitter's approval doesn't work The opinions you believe are universal are being fed to you by an algorithm designed to show you what you want.

Today's Load-bearing Tomato addresses the age old question:

"why don't the devs just [SOCIAL MEDIA OPINION]"

It turns out, "a lot of reasons", but if you never have to test your ideas, you never have to discover why they're not any good.
