Jon is absolutely right about this!
B of A is planning to force its customers into mandatory arbitration, a rigged system that would make it a lot easier for the Bank to break the law and get away with it.
But people can avoid this, and opt out, and they SHOULD.
Two wins from last week you might have missed!
1) A district court blocked Trump from defunding NPR and PBS, ruling that EO 14290 was unconstitutional.
2) A district court blocked the Trump-Vance administration from terminating $10 billion in child care, family assistance, and housing funds.
Good News! Federal Court orders ICE to end inhumane conditions for immigrants in Baltimore’s courthouse holding cells.
Congratulations to our grantee Amica Center for Immigrant Rights.
Impact Fund granted $10,000 to help fund this case in September of 2025.
The courts, over the past year, have provided a significant guardrail because of the power of people. Because people have stood up in what is now nearly 700 cases – the largest effort we’ve seen against this administration. And the president is losing 70% to 80% of the time.
It was not surprising to us, as lawyers, when we started seeing the millions who came out for No Kings, the largest single-day mobilization of people in U.S. history. Because we had been seeing it with people in court. This year will be highly litigious; we will be in court every single day. The fight is going to require all the lawyers, but ultimately, it is going to be the people.
The courts have been and will continue to be a critical check on the Trump-Vance admin’s unlawful actions – but it is ultimately the people who have the power to stop this rapidly accelerating autocratic playbook.

Lawsuit filed! Two California hospitals are illegally cutting off medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth. We've sued to stop them.
The lawsuit challenges the hospital system’s January 20, 2026, announcement that it would stop providing healthcare to treat transgender youth — care that every major medical organization recognizes as well-established and medically necessary.

Truly hilarious quote in this Law360 article:
"A California federal judge quickly narrowed a pool of 92 prospective jurors Thursday in a class action against Elon Musk as Musk's attorney lamented there are 'so many people who hate him so much.'"

Last summer, the Department of Justice tried to gain access to the private medical records of 3,000 transgender youths at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
We stopped them.

On This Day in 1919, Fred Korematsu was born.
"Protest... One person can make a difference, even if it takes forty years." - Fred T. Korematsu
Fred T. Korematsu was a Civil Rights activist who protested the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II by becoming a fugitive. His bravery is particularly resonant today.
So many thanks to:
* The parents who organized and fought so hard
* The many queer adults who protested with us, especially @lalgbtcenter.bsky.social
* The families who served as plaintiffs

Today, we celebrate Harvey Milk's fearless advocacy for justice, and monumental success for gay rights.
"Harvey... imagined a righteous world inside his head and then he set about to create it for real, for all of us." - Anne Kronenberg, Milk's campaign manager.
Renee Nicole Good deserved to live.
We are deeply, deeply saddened by the killing of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent on January 7. She was a poet, a U.S. citizen, and the mom of a 6-year-old boy. This senseless tragedy should never have happened.
A tweet from ACLU_nationwide saying "BREAKING: A federal judge blocked the Trump administration's attacks on Head Start programs that provide education and care to children from low-income families."
This is the second court to block Trump’s attacks on this critical programming. We, alongside the ACLU, will continue to fight for children and families in court.
A picture of Ella Baker and the caption "Civil rights leader Ella Baker was born on this day in 1903."
Ella Baker believed in grassroots organizing and direct action as an answer to fear, isolation, and intellectual detachment. That belief is exceptionally relevant today.
Today, we honor her memory.

In the 1960s and '70s, the city of Portland seized and destroyed homes in the neighborhood of Central Albina, a thriving Black community, under the guise of "urban renewal".
This case, brought by twenty-six Black survivors and descendants of families whose homes were destroyed, settled this June.
