New in PN: @gelliottmorris.com on Trump's dire polling
"Trump has the unique problem that he started off a lot lower than other presidents. So as he loses ground — and he has lost ground at about the normal clip — he just continues to be worse and worse than every other president before him."

Notch another win for automatic traffic enforcement.
After San Francisco began using cameras to ticket vehicles, speeding dropped 72% across 15 sites (20,000 fewer speeding drivers).
That’s a lot of people.
Unignorably large.

Head to a protest today. I can almost promise you will feel less hopeless. That's exactly what they don't want. There are more of us than there are of them.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.
shit is scary right now, but i have no intention of shutting up or shutting down.

1) pic of Melissa and Mark Hortman 2) pic of Melissa Hortman and dog Gilbert
Remembering MN house speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and their beloved dog Gilbert. Murdered in June at their home by a rightwing Trump-voting evangelist, who also shot another MN lawmaker and his wife at THEIR home, 9 and 8 times, respectively (miraculously, they survived).
A bear in the wild, smiling and posing coyly
I guess this has probably already gone viral somewhere but I am simply dying at this picture of a bear that looks like it hired a photographer to do a glamour shoot

Good on Lisa Cook.
As the first rule states, do not obey in advance.
Re read the study you shared. It literally said Minneapolis managed to have the lowest rent increases in the country due to higher building. And the lower desirability was caused by higher interest rates that affected all cities across the country. You shared the study.
Thanks for sharing that article. Shows that Minneapolis is on the right track and cities in CA should emulate that success
This article supports the yimby position. That’s a remarkable change due to increasing housing supply. The lagging demand was a national trend caused by higher interest rates.
maga is Old, hateful and bitter. Compared to this young, diverse, hopeful and energetic crowd
This bill removes barriers to construction that keeps even affordable housing from being built. Increasing housing supply is a very good thing for everyone
Absolutely incredible video of a woman standing up to ICE. This is resistance
1/2
We can see a data driven example of yimby policy working better than rent control. Minneapolis implemented a build first approach and St. Paul did rent control. Minneapolis managed to control housing costs while St. Paul costs went up

funny how we're not hearing much about the prices of things from the media any more this year, isn't it?
We’re not against rent control. But that’s treating the symptom and not the cause. We can’t rent control our way out of a severe housing shortage. Housing supply in CA has not kept up with population growth. We need to do whatever we can to remove barriers to build
Yimby is about removing barriers to building new housing. All evidence shows that providing housing supply to meet demand reduces cost of living and reduces homelessness and crime
Again, You have this backwards. The only people that benefit from lack of new housing are the rich landlords that keep rent high through lack of housing options. Removing barriers to building new housing gives people more options for affordable housing that helps residents stay in their neighborhood
You have that exactly backwards. Not building enough housing leads to displacement gentrification because the rich outbid everyone else for existing homes. Building More housing equals more affordable options for everyone. YIMBY

I have a new paper with a fantastic team (thanks to @jgeller1phd.bsky.social!) with a nice mix of theoretical & applied perspectives on beta regression modeling (i.e., proportions). It's fully reproducible with #rstats code.
Great resource for teaching & self-learning!
