Hahaha and now the pop-up that Office will restart in 30 minutes. At least it let me postpone. My kingdom for a stable and functional MS Office replacement that doesn't make me want to smash things on a regular basis. 😤

Cool cool cool. I'm drowning in urgent work tasks, chasing a deadline, so of course Microsoft Word crashes, takes a dozen documents down with it, and then starts "helpfully" reopening random shit from last week when I'm meticulously reopening documents in a particular order. 🤯
Imagine making AI bird slop when bald eagles capture red tailed hawk chicks to eat and then their little brains decide to raise them already exist 🪶
Birds in the news!
A bird-friendly building ordinance has once again been introduced to the Chicago City Council — the second time such legislation has been brought before City Council since 2019 — but advocates fear the measure was dead on arrival.
Living in a dense urbanized city is one of the best choices you can make to protect the planet - a fun fact you can deploy against people who want to get all self-righteous about the supposed evils of cities.
I'm eight months late here, but hooray! I saw a rare bird alert for them earlier today. I keep hoping they'll expand their range up to Chicago. They were one of my favorite yard birds when I lived in Boston.
I do not understand what it is that makes people allergic to alt text. You're just being less than your best self when you refuse to do it. I see 40k-100k following accounts who won't do it, a middle finger to everyone with issues needing alt text to be able to participate. You're bumming me out. 1/
So, open eugenics.
alt text is great, even when images are working
Close up photo of a crow (specifically, Fearless Fred) perched in a crab apple tree amidst pale pink apple blossoms.
#BirdoftheDay is Fred the crow with apple blossom. He looks so innocent here … #crows
Ugh! Northern Mockingbirds have been spotted around Chicago over the last week, but I have no energy to go birding 😩😭
THERE WAS A MONARCH IN THE GARDEN!!!
When I worked at the Vet Med Teaching Hospital at Texas A&M we were literally not allowed to work there without a tetanus vaccine and rabies prophy vaccine series. No exemptions. Because creatures in pain BITE. And those bites can give you diseases that will KILL OR DISABLE YOU.
You aren’t struggling with “simple tasks.”
Existing in a sensory environment not built for your brain demands immense, invisible neurological work.
This effort remains unseen.
The exhaustion is very real.

My last two post shares show an adult raven dramatically swooshing away from the carved window of a gothic cathedral in NYC that houses its five hungry baby ravens with their hungry pink mouths open to the sky shouting for food. 🐦⬛
(I really wish more people on this site would use alt text. Sigh.)
There's no time to rest--as soon as one round of feeding is finished, the parent heads right back out to get more.
A family of Ravens is putting the goth back in gothic at NYC's largest cathedral--St John the Divine. There are five mouths to feed, so the parents are staying busy! ⛪️⛪️⛪️ #Ravens #Cathedral #birding
i mean, look at this guy. just bopping around the watering hole.
in my 20s my friends all gently made fun of me for being into birds, so i am particularly invested in the wave of 30- and 40-somethings being like "oh wow, actually these lil guys are pretty neat??" YES. JOIN US.
Welcome to the club! 🐦⬛
Without starting a fight, may I just say that if you deeply and profoundly understand the need for human contact as a result of Covid, you might consider doing something to help the people still at high risk from Covid access it, instead of acting in ways that excludes and isolates them.
why do things like this never happen to me
The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

I love how horrible pigeon nests look. And I just found a subreddit that's devoted to them www.reddit.com/r/stupiddove...
Before someone gets mad at me: I do not think that is good
It was wild to find out how many “tough” people’s breaking point was not being able to get a haircut or go to a bar for a few months. The slightest discomfort of wearing a mask drove people over the edge, which is really scary to think about.

I would love it if those of you who do not have library cards will apply for one at your local branch during #NationalLibraryWeek. Then let me know about it. 😇
