I spend a lot of time listening to music (real shocker, I know) But beyond general enjoyment, I like analyzing songs to figure out why composers made specific decisions…and if I would make the same ones. It’s a nice exercise to keep the gears going ⚙️ (though enjoyment of music is still big for me 🤣)

Isn’t that the great thing about being a composer, though? We all have our own approaches to composition, and as such, we all put different levels of importance on the various elements that make up a piece of music~ 🩵

I’m sometimes asked what part of a piece of music I feel is most important. And I think I’ll respond the same way until the day I die: the motif.

Music is a complex beast, but melody doesn’t (and in many cases, shouldn’t) have to be. If you can make an 👂🪱 & get listeners to hum your song, you win
