Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.

A choropleth map of the United States with orange dots showing concentrated poverty in metropolitan America.

Before the pandemic, the nation’s metro areas had nearly 5,800 neighborhoods with poverty rates of 30 percent or higher. One in 15 Americans lived in these places. And there were more children in these high-poverty neighborhoods than in all of New England.

A bar chart in Spanish showing how the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts voted in the last three presidential elections comparing the number of votes received by the democratic candidate vs. Trump.

In 2020, Donald Trump made headlines in Massachusetts because of the inroads he made in Lawrence, a traditionally Democratic stronghold that also happens to be the most Hispanic city in the state. Four years later, he continued to make big gains in the Gateway City.
