I’m honored that our recent JAMES publication was selected as an @eos.org @agu.org Research Spotlight.
We show how tropical high-impact Wx events evolve under future atmospheric conditions. I'm excited to continue this work with my research group at @tamuartsci.bsky.social, ATMO Department.
Many cyclones, like 2006’s Hurricane Helene, originate from wet-weather systems over Africa. A recent study indicates climate change intensifies these systems, amplifying flood risks for vulnerable African communities.

As a result of climate change, future Atlantic tropical cyclones are likely to develop and move more slowly, and hold more moisture.

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG) & learning about the amazing work the faculty & students are doing — especially the incredible research coming out of Danielle Touma's group!

Same in my tropical meteorology class!! We do tropical weather briefings at the start of class! 🫶
Some 🔑 findings:
* AEWs over Africa are projected to become more intense & wetter.
* AEW locations remain unchanged, but a case study reveals slower future AEW speeds & delayed TC genesis.
* Slower future AEW propagation may lead to longer-lasting heavy rainfall, raising the risk of flooding.
