Or we could fund colleges properly and fill shortages with skilled teachers??

This is a great blog and all of it applies to ‘teacher learning’ if not more. Teachers are even more time poor than students. Feedback is often passed down by observer with no check for understanding or surfacing of mental models. Finally, how do we create conditions for teachers to act on feedback?

Foundations for the future - News A new report from City & Guilds reveals that critical skills shortages in the construction sector are putting the Government’s pledge to build 1.5 million new homes at serious risk.

An interesting report out today by City & Guilds. A gentle reminder:

-Investment in 16-18 education is currently ~10% less in real-terms vs 2010.

-For adult education the figure is ~40%

-Employer investment in skills is at a 20-year low.

“If we asked teachers to build a rocket from scratch, we’d expect them to need time, scaffolding and plenty of support. Yet teaching itself is a complex, high-stakes task, and we often expect people to just “pick it up” during CPD sessions or one-off briefings”

T-levels are a disaster – and young people are suffering because ministers won’t admit it | Susanna Rustin They were supposed to boost vocational learning, but they’re not popular with students and the dropout rate is high. Time for a dose of realism, says Guardian journalist Susanna Rustin

"Far from sorting out vocational education, the T-level saga has turned into the latest illustration of a longstanding problem, namely the poor treatment of colleges by the educational powers that be": www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
