Our grant officers increasingly advise is to write like this. It is painfully boring to focus so much on charts. I’d like to see the foundations putting more focus on the scientific ideas.

I get similar emails. I politely replied to a student that their email seemed AI generated and to avoid that in the future. They were upset.
Lab get-together before the holidays 🎄
The PhD project will focus on polyphenols, a class of common dietary compounds with putative health benefits. We aim to determine how polyphenols interact with gut bacteria to produce metabolites with immunomodulatory activity.
Are you interested in pursuing a PhD fellowship in Microbiology and Immunology? The project will be supervised by Andrew Williams and I.
Application deadline: 26 January 2025, 23.59pm CET

In the Young Academy we hosted the Nordic Baltic Young Academy meeting in the spring. Here, we share 10 tips to navigating Academia. Some are universal and some are highly specific to our region 👇
My lab studies how bacteria avoid getting killed by phages and antibiotics. This World AMR-awareness week, two awesome MSc students in my lab graduated, having studied the effect of quorum sensing and antibiotics stress on motility of the important pathogens P. aeruginosa and P. syringae. 🧫💊🎉
Happy #WorldPhageWeek

Spring fun with my little one
Thanks :) we grew the five strains seperately in LB kan 100, then mixed them. The students got an eppendorf with this mix and streaked on LB kan plates with metal loops. Incubated at 28, 2 days and kept the plates in the fridge 5 days. Keeping them cold gives them time to produce lots of pigment :)
I switched up our microbiology lab manual for our students this year. The rainbow E. coli panel from @atinygreencell.bsky.social works really well for practicing streak plating. What is a single colony? Is a colony derived from one single bacterium? How do we ensure pure cultures?
From our teaching lab today —> importance of streaking :)
Happy holidays
Yesterday we celebrated our Phage & Quorum Sensing lab launch and lots of cool new data with appropriate drinks during World #AMR Awareness Week.
