So, now that everyone has had a day to process, we’re all going to be supportive and normal about this, right?

Right… ? 😅

We’re getting an actual movie based on a fic written by one of our own. We won.

I knew this is the angle that news outlets would take, but did they have to jump on it on day one? 😂

Yes! You wouldn’t let your kid drive your car without making them learn how to do it safely first. AI use should be no different. Like the invention of the car, it has the potential to push humanity forward, but if it’s used ignorantly or if the results aren’t rigorously checked, it can be a danger.

Exactly! The reality is that there’s widespread adoption in both the private and public sectors. Preparing people to know how to use these tools effectively, how to ensure accuracy, and how to make sure results are free of bias and copyright infringement are incredibly important.

I think the closest comparison for me personally would be math. I can no longer do long division with a pencil and paper, but I’m an advanced excel user. I can obtain better, faster, and more accurate results using it as a tool to assist with my work. Maybe I’m naive, but how is this different?

Does that research show that that’s happening in all use-cases, or just in some? In my experience, AI has forced me to think critically a lot more than before. To fully understand what you’re interacting with and what it can and can’t do requires a great deal of analysis and testing.

Why though? AI is just another tool like the calculator or the computer. Why not shift learning to focus on things like critical thinking, fact checking, and reviewing outputs for accuracy?

We got a little reprieve this morning, so I made the most of it and went for a long walk in the sun. I hope you got some too!

My mental health is begging for a reprieve. I just can’t with these low pressure systems.
