I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example.

Removing urban motorways doesn't cause traffic to simply reroute; it causes traffic to 'evaporate' as folks discover alternative ways to travel. It's a key intervention for tackling pollution, community severence and climate change; it's motorways' retention, not their removal, that's disastrous.

It also illustrates how the case for the changes isn't based on anything resembling a vision or principle... but instead exists to appease rather than tackle the prejudices of xenophobes.
