What is your experience with manuscript transfer offered by publishers? Recently, we have had very disappointing experiences with Springer as well as SAGE. Manuscripts were held for months without any progress, despite repeated reminders and queries. Ultimately, the only way to move things forward was to contact the Editor-in-Chief directly, which in every case resulted in rejection of the manuscript. After several months, the publisher continued to assure us that they were awaiting the editor’s assessment. However, our experience with the same journals is that editorial assessments are typically delivered within a maximum of five days. It seems that transferred manuscripts may be treated as “second-tier,” potentially mishandled or even disadvantaged during the assessment process. This could reflect a lack of alignment between publishers and editors regarding the value of manuscript transfer procedures. What is your experience with this process? What are your thoughts on it?

Senior editors seems to NOT be involved in handling at all. It seems to be that their role is just formal, just to pretend that manuscripts are handled by academics.
Editors in chiefs were recently awarded by PhD, having very poor track record of publications and hard to reach in academic community. Fully unresponsive. Handling is done by stuff which seems to serve to several journals and seems not to be academics at all.
🧪What do you think about what is going on BMC journals? I have several recent experiences, when manuscripts are very poorly handled, long delays, no or very poor communication resulting in withdrawal. When checking editorial board, in several case we found strange things.
