🚨 We’re heading to Boulder! 🚨 The Content Creator Scholars Network is thrilled to host our ICA 2025 pre-conference: Debating Creator Culture, in partnership with the University of Colorado Boulder’s College of Media, Communication and Information.
Finally getting through the last of my peer review backlog today, somehow all the conference and journal stuff ends up bunched together 😓
One thing life gave me is resilience.
Resilience is, far and away, the single greatest factor to anything good that I have in my life.
Someone recently asked me what I want for the kids in my life. It’s this. Resilience. Because life ain’t fair & you gotta live it anyway.
Having one of those rare moments of “yes I am doing exactly the thing that brings me a lot of joy” in my work life as I interview artists and designers about generative AI and its impacts on the creative industries
Join us for the next #CCSNChats 12pm EST, April 14th with a fabulous panel—Sakyra Abbitt, Camille Lawrence, Meredith Clark and Zakiya Collier—who will be talking about Archiving the Internet 💥

I can finally share that I've been working on a new analysis of 7 social media platforms’ policies governing s3xuality education & g3nd3r expression content focusing on young people & adolescents. I was awarded funding in September 2024 & have been leading this analysis with support from UNESCO⤵️
I would never pretend to be an expert in things outside of my deeper areas of research, but being able to pull introductory concepts together and make sense of them for non-experts in other fields is actually a skill? Thanks grad school
I remember feeling like Comm was a little overwhelming due to its capacious reach and now I’m actually really grateful that I was forced to learn how to read across the social sciences and humanities as I try to synthesize basic concepts for engineering and comp sci colleagues
It’s a lot of work for everyone involved, but it really is cool when peer review helps someone produce a much better piece of writing while still retaining their intent and authorial voice.
In the last couple months at work, multiple things I’ve read in grad seminars about random topics that seemed interesting came in handy! being interdisciplinary is fun even if it sometimes feels like you have to keep up with so many fields at once
🎉 The CCSN is now on Bluesky! 🎉 The Content Creator Scholars Network: Your community for critical studies on digital creators, platform economies & cultures. Join us for resources, events, blogs, and collaborative knowledge—there’s something for everyone interested in creator culture www.ccsn.site
Well, I’m only behind on one deadline (conference submission reviews) after having a cold for a week, but hopefully I will finish that today!
🤭 this would actually be fun
Thrilled to announce the @datasociety.bsky.social Generative AI & Labor Primer by Aiha Nguyen & Alexandra Mateescu. It covers how GenAI impacts many forms of work, the human labor behind GenAI & AI's impact on worker control & surveillance. A labor/tech must-read! datasociety.net/library/gene...
They asked some great questions!
the typos are reflective of the process tysm
I am waiting until January 2025 to look at my dissertation again but every now and then I’ll jot down something…I feel like I want to get my three body chapters out at journal articles and then start thinking about a possible book could look like after that
Another day at Bluesky, and it looks like growth is not slowing down! Welcome!
We’d like to take a moment to share our stance on AI and user data:

Interesting things afoot. I was on Twitter for about 13 years. I had about 23k followers there, an unknown number of which were bots, advertisers, adversarial follows, etc. it took many years to get to that number. Algorithmic recommender-generated timelines were a big part of how it worked.
The devs were v responsive to moderation requests early on and I’m interested to see how/if that continues. They directly reached out to some of us with complaints about moderation and diversity on here and asked what would help and actually did the things which is why I continue to be a bsky stan
I can't trust that everyone has figured out the moderation sliders 😅
Now that so many academic pals have made their way over here, I figured I should have an account that does not have pictures of my butt and/or queer fandom shitposting 🫡
