Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

Tent labeled "this is student housing" outside Seattle Central College
“This is student housing”
A person wrote on their tent outside Seattle Central College, USA.
When your home becomes a site of protest, viral art installation and indictment of the capitalist economic system.
Instead of hiding class violence, they chose to highlight it for all to see.

on both votes. keep going, y’all.
wait, we got Murray AND Cantwell on board? finally.
i remember, though, in a central american history class in college, a spanish banana plantation supervisor was quoted saying he couldn't identify the race of a deceased worker because he "couldn't hear him speak." as in, the language he spoke would determine it.
srsly! who...let them think he was caribbean? sus.
i'm ashekenazi (as far as I know), but as a spanish-speaker, ladino has always fascinated me
for me, the alignment via ~language~ was particularly compelling: ladino as a gateway to sephardi-caribbean coalitions
for the past year, I’ve been organizing with fellow Jewish authors to push the Jewish Book Council away from its alignment with the Israeli state. after a long back-and-forth and no tangible change, our open letter is live today at @lithub.com.web.brid.gy lithub.com/an-open-lett...
We made it through to another Don't Argue Inside Your Head With Other People Friday. Today, if you like, practice gently moving your mind away from the arguments you find yourself having inside your head w/people who aren't present, or who it's not safe or not fair for you to argue with.
in good company w Adnan 🌊
thanks to everyone who’s signed on since our letter went live. this work of moving jewish institutions takes all of us. please read and share lithub.com/an-open-lett...

川 LIT HUB An Open Letter to the Jewish Book Council From a Concerned Group of Jewish Writers "WE ARE JEWISH AUTHORS WHO BELIEVE IN JEWISH BOOKS, AND FOR WHOM PALESTINIAN LIBERATION IS A MORAL IMPERATIVE."
= LIT HUB We are Jewish authors who believe in Jewish books, and for whom Palestinian liberation is a moral imperative. While we are eager for our work to find Jewish audiences, we have not been inclined to participate in the JBC's's initiatives because of their vocal support for the Israeli state, and disproportionate highlighting of Zionist stories and voices. Because the JBC is our most visible and longstanding Jewish literary institution, its focus on Zionist authors and books gives both Jewish and non-Jewish readers the false impression that Jewish books are inherently Zionist. We refuse this conflation and call on the JBC to respond in good faith and in a manner that addresses the urgency of this moment.
please read, share, and sign on if you, too, are a Jewish author who dreams of a better world to come lithub.com/an-open-lett...

Our PhD student Kennedy Orwa, who studies applications of AI to health care, was hastily deported today to Kenya along with his 13-year-old son without opportunity to speak to legal counsel.
King 5 reports that he held a valid visa that was rescinded without explanation.
Hey, pick up a phone. It'll help. Be kind to the staffers. You'll probably be speaking to an intern, if someone answers. They didn't do this. They very possibly agree with you if you call a DC office.
But let your senators and representative know that Trump's genocidal threat cannot stand.
Anyone who wants citizenship to be an inheritance linked to blood, such that out-groups can be unrepresented and exploited by the in-groups, is a fucking fascist and needs to be treated as such.
Idk it's a mystery and now to take a big sip of memory juice and search up what happened to even ivy league students under a president I am choosing to assume was Trump
💌thanks, meli. the project continues—
