The work of @citizensinpower.bsky.social in the West of England is a model for how other local authorities can work with arts organisations, NGOs and local people to successfully create citizen-led policy and ideas that speak to local realities.
We were pleased to read ACE's constructive response to the Hodge Review, particularly the recognition of citizen-led culture. "At the heart of all the activity we’re proposing...is a commitment to giving citizens the power to shape what happens in their communities."
Congratulations @culturecommons.bsky.social @trevormacf.bsky.social for years of advocacy with Westminster, Mayors, peers and civil society. The achievement shifting this Bill signals recognition that culture is a cornerstone of local governance, strengthens communities and delivers public value.

The Gulbenkian Foundation is proud to have supported the project with seed funding in its infancy, alongside @artscouncilengland.bsky.social, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, @esmeefairbairn.bsky.social and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority. Learn about the approach: citizensforculture.info
The plan has widespread support from policymakers, local authorities and arts and culture leaders. The novel Citizens Assembly and inclusive process has been described as "a shining example of how we can put communities at the heart of cultural decisions" (Lisa Nandy MP).
Developed over two years by people across West England, the plan makes recommendations for public spaces, schools, local authorities, funders and cultural organisations, aiming to make culture more accessible for all.
