Book Two is different from the first, but a worthy return to the world that looks beyond the initial players and informs the broader setting.

This was the first of @nkjemisin.bsky.social's works I read, and I was a fan from page one. Characters and settings so rich that the colors and scents and emotions will dance in your mind for weeks after reading.

And importantly, Shaun went back to the series as an adult with a fully formed worldview and additional context on the author's worldview. Most of us were children who didn't have those things available to us 😅

Folks love doing this "actually, the work was always toxic and I was right for hating it" song and dance and it's soooo tiresome.

I get it, but like, a translation is a work to be read, ideally by common folks 😵‍💫

I had to bail because of the untranslated French. Reading in ebook format, I did have instant access to the footnotes which contained translations, but interrupting my flow every 3 minutes to click a tiny citation number was a nightmare 😬
