I'm not sure if it's just because I started biking around that time, but I've seen this exact maneuver so much more since the pandemic. I can't help but wonder if it's a symptom of the "lockdown" backlash where people became stopped hiding just how selfish they are.

Holy Fuck the spontaneous full speed u-turns is right!

I did what I could to help them, but it was very revealing to see how I could have just as easily flipped it into being a Nigerian prince myself. It would be easy, but stealing money from random grandmas is fucking evil, so of course I didn't. Point being, this MAGA AI girl stuff is even easier.

The temptation is certainly there. Many years ago I found myself in a silly position moderating a Facebook group where people kept thinking they were contacting Mark Zuckerberg. Many of them were getting horribly scammed, but they desperately wanted the "Facebook Lottery" to be real.

We are in the unfiltered cigarette, leaded gasoline, radium paint phase of AI. You know, the part where we let companies kill people for a while until the numbers get big enough that we decide to regulate it.

The DLR is fully automated and you can get a front window seat, kinda nice view.

This is why we need to take qualified immunity away from the police and transfer it to retail/service workers.

Governor, your proposed social media legislation would cut many of these Hatian families off from access to lifesaving online resources.

Requiring social media companies to verify the age of every user means requiring online ID checks, which are completely unworkable for undocumented families.

Some people want to make children responsible for keeping themselves safe from reckless drivers, with the mantra "safety is a shared responsibility".

In the real world, they aren't even safe from reckless drivers inside their schools:

Boston does this too. Our most overbuilt and dangerous roads are a network of arterials designed and managed by the state parks department, which makes them a bizzaro second state DOT.

Won't someone think of the children killers!

The Boston Pedophile Department at their usual antics.

My concern with that is that laypeople will not understand that nuance. I can easily picture someone being weird and confrontational trying to play cop about it.

Last I saw, the whole River Street project was supposed to be finished last fall. Please explain the latest delays. It's been dug up since 2019. It's a road/utility rebuild, not a space program. It shouldn't take 7 years, even for a relatively complicated one like this.

The desperate campaign to push AI down our throats is just what Nestlé did with baby formula, or Monsanto with patended seeds.

Manufactured Intermediation—inserting a corporate tollbooth into a process that used to be self-sustaining, using a low initial barrier to entry to destroy the alternative.

But yet here you are, replying to a comment on a video of a city. You must not have lane assist on that thing because you've drifted out of yours.

This is an awful story.

A guy in a car straight up murdered a woman because she was pissed he was blocking the sidewalk and poured a bottle of water on his car.

So he drove over her *with his family in the car*, leaving her to die.

My family never really was on there thankfully. I did have to unfriend a girl from my highschool when she set up the birthday fundraiser thing for "Friends of the IDF" though. 🤮

A constitutional amendment repealing the exemptions to the 13th amendment and ending privatized for-profit prisons is the moderate position.

That's unexpected. Are the bins less of a sight blocker than a parked car? I thought they were pretty big.

That listed rated wattage isn't something you set. It's a hard number off the spec sheet for the motor itself.

I haven't messed with configurable ebike controllers, but for similar stuff for industrial applications you do enter limits (as torque or current if not power directly).

Just turned all Shorts off. Realized a few years ago how toxic that shit is for your brain and attention span. I avoid it like the plague.

I don't trust Facebook's numbers to be legitimate either. They've repeatedly toyed with making bot accounts themselves, on top of admitting that 10% of their (ad?) revenue comes from scams and fraud. I can't help but notice that their drop levels off right around that time.
