"Techlordism is already here. The repercussions are breathtaking: ubiquitous surveillance, automated targeting on battlefields, macroeconomic instability, the end of democracy as even an ideal (cheered by Peter Thiel) + the death of universities.” @yanisvaroufakis.bsky.social

BALDWIN: Do you think NIH should fund less cancer research?
RFK Jr: No, they should fund more, & one of the few agencies that got a raise in the budget was NCI
B: That increase is less than $1m for an institute with a $7b budget. That's a .01% increase. It wouldn't even cover one additional grant
Palantir's CEO published a manifesto arguing Western tech firms have a "moral debt" to US military dominance, that AI weapons are inevitable, and that "some cultures are dysfunctional." This isn't just a regularly evil tech or defence contractor, it’s a fascist political project.
I just assume this is a feature of the school shooter type, of which these guys are all extremely vivid examples
I like the phrase “ambivert,” as someone who is smack dab in the middle of the extroversion/introversion scale; I love people, I love spending time around them, I love meeting new people, but I also love hanging around at home and my social battery is not particularly large.
It’s my birthday. Yes. 4/20, for my sins.
WATCH: Researchers at Stanford University modeled how many people could die or be disabled in 25 years if vaccines for polio, measles, rubella or diphtheria were no longer available.
Browsing this company's website and the only way I can describe what I'm seeing is imagine a school shooter was a management consultant
two related thoughts: i suspect that many tech companies get away with utterly ratshit, incompetent leadership because you've got a fat middle section of competence holding up the roof
AI is an existential threat to that middle section of the workforce, and will lay bare a lot of incompetence
one thing i'm pretty certain of is that no one currently working in elected politics is prepared for the ways that our politics are going to change when hundreds of thousands of upper middle class, educated tech workers are getting laid off and rehired as contractors for ~60% of the pay
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
This is as good as everyone's saying it is. The anti-corruption message is a good one, imo
Watching Palantir do Sephiroth posting about multiculturalism and I would like to remind everyone that they were doing corporate fake woke shit just like every other company.
"Dear America" letters from people who work at the besieged US Department of Housing and Urban Development:

Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

“The United States is being murdered, and it’s an inside job. Every department, every branch, every bureau and function of the federal government is being fatally corrupted or altogether dismantled or disabled.”
He super sucks

im open to either scenario
People in scholarly books will say anything about Romanticism. “Lord Byron didn’t have hoes.” That’s not true
