Next it came time to receive their always inevitable bombs. For our own good they said once again. I thought of a time when my father made me smoke an entire pack of cigarettes in front of him and yet here I sit smoking now. I watched a missile arcing through the night sky toward the town where he is buried and one of ours snaking upward to embrace it. It was like a sentence scribbled in orange ink in the clouds with an unsteady hand. I had this silly thought about how to prevent them both from ever landing but I haven’t yet learned how to convince you that other people are real.
