If the number of breaks they are seeing combined with unfettered customer use continue, they could reach a critical stage where we are sending an Alert or eventually they lose sufficient pressure thus mandating Boil Water advisories (which are always sent Alert Montgomery).

The water is not a risk (danger) to use, but the system has a bunch of leaks in it which WSSC is working to fix. They are just asking for a reduction/moderation of use (shorter showers, less flushing, less laundry/dishwashing) for now.

Not sure, but I was about to retype my post here, so I figured I’d just repost you since you took the time to port it over already.

A few days out: if the forecast calls for winter weather, start preparing now. Have emergency supplies for your home & car. Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replenish fuel for your car and heating sources. The day before: forecast accuracy continues to improve, so keep checking the latest. Adjust plans. Have multiple ways to receive Warnings. Bring pets indoors and ensure they have water. During and after: remain vigilant and stay informed. Drive only if necessary. Check on neighbors and family. Properly ventilate emergency heat sources. Keep generators at least 20 feet from your home. Take it easy when shoveling.

Here’s a note that was left by the one of the shelter residents for DHHS staff in appreciation.

1 year ago 3 0 0 0

I want to thank the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) staff that have supported the shelter 24/7 with assistance from Housing & Community Affairs, Emergency Management (OEMHS), MCPD, and others.

Time for a first post! I bet few people even realize that the County has been operating an emergency shelter for the last several days due to a facility issue at condo association in the Aspen Hill area. 20-25 people have been staying at the Mid-County Rec Center repairs were made.
