Hello. I’m writing a novel. @editrixemma.bsky.social @alexbrownwrites.bsky.social
iron maiden, not an amazing fit, but where the hardy model just smoothly goes up and down, the progress model has a sharp break from 5-6 that matches the observed counts way better
but abra ca dabra observed strokes don't have that dip at all. the progress model is completely wrong here and the hardy model is pretty good
Here are a couple more examples. For some games like Iron Maiden, I think it's getting at something real! But for every one of those, there's a something like Abra Ca Dabra where that 'dip' never happens. Is it something about the games and assuming ball scores are independent?
Two models of pin-golf stroke counts, one based on Hardy's simplified golf model, the other extending that idea of progress toward a goal as continuous. The progress model 'dips' at 6 strokes just like the observations where the Hardy model doesn't, which is nice, bot both are garbage elsewhere
So the 'progress' model of pingolf is definitely capturing something interesting, but since it's based on the distribution of (assumed independent) ball scores (here, chi-squared df 1), I don't know how to fit it in general. How do you make distribution families into a parameter?

Time Dilation kind of makes the whole “datacenters in space” idea more fun.
Technically… a GPS Block III CPU runs an extra ~7,000 clock cycles per day compared to the same machine on earth.
Extend to the extreme, and you get the whole subfield of CS+physics called relativistic hypercompuation.
"He had one caffeine-fueled week to prepare a full concept — playfield layout, characters, assets, mechanisms, and required audio/video clips."
That's so short. I'd be curious to hear how long other designers take to get a layout concept worked up, and how close to final the concept is.
And the problem is right there in the name, the colors have to make a cycle or there's going to be a harsh break. But if the colors cycle, then you can't distinguish between low and high values anymore. I said it was an interesting idea, not a good one.
“Wrestling’s fake!” Oh yeah? Then explain this
Here's the animation of a contour plot with the breaks shifting that gave me the idea to try palette cycling.
I was animating contour lines on a likelihood and had a fun idea to use the old palette cycling technique to animate a function. I don't think it works as well as cycling contour lines, but it was an interesting idea.

I read Melville's 'The Bell Tower' today and wasn't expecting a pretty tight mystery! It's got creation, Babel, and Cain all mushed together. I don't know if this is what I'm supposed to take away, but one big difference between Bannadonna and God to me is, God rested.

The first two sketches of The Encantadas were kind of a snooze, but then Melville's narrator breaks out his stand up routine making fun of birds. Pelicans have lugubrious expressions, penguins are nature's mistake, albatrosses are unpoetic. (I will fight him on that last one)
