I bet they had to use spells of protection to make their books fireproof, which would have been the first gauntlet for a young wizard. The young wizards that did not have a knack for it probably burned their towers down with those big sleeves, leaving only the wise wizards.

I mean think of all the flammable books and tomes sitting around in those wizard towers. Wizards must have been knocking candles over all the time and burning those towers down.

When I have my bath robe on, I'm constantly knocking things over with these sleeves and getting them wet. Wizards must have been having a rough time with those robes too.
