Got completely side tracked experimenting making a 3D map in QGIS. It was fun, but I'll need to try something like Gaea to get the level of fidelity I'm fantasizing about. Still debating whether it would be worth it, but I think it actually would be #worldbuilding #fantasycartography

Additionally, starting from north and considering adjoining regions means it's going to take a long time before I get around to working on the delta. Why am I like this 🙄

So much fun working through tidying the river details and the regions associated with it using Claude.ai. I have thoughts about using ai in world building, which I'll definitely write up about soon... it's been an interesting thought and gut process

Note to self: if you want to build a coherent river delta, you really should start from region at the headland of the river and work your way down. Who would have though.

Some of these details were hashed out years ago, some I have had to fill in as I go. It's overall such a satisfying process but whoo-ey! I'm not really a "world building guide" oriented person but I may just do one for delta building, again as a record for myself

Building the delta has been a process of jumping between various points. Started with the delta, learnt about types based on dominant forces, scratched out a river, wanted more detail so went back to climate and elevation calculations, back to the river, then the delta, then tides, the moons...

For my record: I world build for a mixture of enjoyment and learning, so the building process is really messy and "inefficient"... I go back to things I read or thought about before because it didn't stick the first time. It really is one step forward, two steps back, but honestly that's learning

Maybe overly ambitious, but I find improvement in skill and knowlege comes from trying new and complex images, so here we go. Taking a punt at some values

Hmm, I like each for different reasons and for different purposes. If I'm sticking to my original plan the left ought to be the one but... will sit on it for a bit

Acacus Mountains - Wikipedia

One of the reference images helping me out is of save art from Tadrart Acacus in Libya - this is now making me think "what kind of rocks are these?" and "where in my world would have these rock types?" Then the art I'm making would be from that location en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacus_...

Challenge trying to get a rocky texture using flat colours and lines. I'm interested in avoiding blended rendering techniques, but I think we can manage with a bit of experimentation and patience...

Easing back into nascent creating - stealing just 20mins where I can. Current illustration project which I intend to use as a visual for my world building codex entry "Thrice-Formed".

I’ve been toying with the idea of checking out bluesky and today was the day finally happened. I had been trying mastodon, but something about it just didn’t work for me. Looking forward to exploring
