I get my health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. Pennie (the Pennsylvania insurance marketplace) has informed me that my insurance premium will DOUBLE next year. To all the folks who voted for the current President or who couldn’t vote for the black lady, I wish you a hearty F@ck You.

People should not have to publicly relive their trauma for you to believe them. Believe survivors. Release the unredacted, unaltered Epstein Files. And charge, convict, and imprison those who participated in the trafficking of children, whether they are Republicans or Democrats.

I have a great time traveling to NYC alone and seeing shows. I can always meet up with local friends (and I do) but I still have time to do the niche stuff that I wanna do. And as you say, people shouldn’t defer trips and experiences if they don’t have a traveling companion. Just go! 😊

Can Anyone Tell Me Why Sales of Our Signature Terrifying Yellow Wallpaper Are Down? Gentlemen, I want answers. Our quarterly earnings are in the garbage, and I expect one of you overpaid three-martini-lunch layabouts to have a good...

"Now, for some unknown reason, people don’t want to buy our wallpaper? Are you all claiming that the public no longer has an interest in unclean yellows? Have dull yet lurid oranges fallen out of fashion?" #CharlottePerkinsGilman

It's pretty notable that mainstream, establishment discourse never ever ever considers giving liberal politicians credit for crime reductions. It's almost axiomatic that if crime goes down under a center-left leader it's either unremarked upon, or must be driven by something else.

Remarkable.

MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful."

Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd.

Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

Immigrants are our greatest asset. Republicans blocked rational and humane immigration policies for decades because the problem is politically more valuable to them than a solution. Now a convicted felon who hung out with Jeffrey Epstein is criminalizing them without due process. Speak the fuck up.

The murders of these students amplified sentiment against the United States' invasion of Cambodia and the Vietnam War.

Welcome to the Fascist States of America. Maybe now people will start waking up. 4/4

Another historical note: On May 4, 1970 National Guard troops were deployed to Kent State University to quell student protests of the Vietnam War and the increase of hostilities in Cambodia.

Four students were killed by National Guardsmen. 3/4

…Trump claims he is suppressing an “insurrection.”

Here’s a gentle reminder that on January 6, 2021, then sitting President Trump refused to deploy the National Guard during a REAL insurrection to protect Congress, Capitol Police, and his own Vice President. 2/3

Hi.

Tonight Trump is deploying the National Guard to California (specifically Los Angeles). Under the influence of his ghoulish minion Stephen Miller, who has been salivating at the prospect of deploying troops against Americans exercising their Constitutional right to protest… 1/4

On top of everything, 47’s new budget proposal eliminates all federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Any artist knows that this will be a huge financial blow for many theatres, dance companies, orchestras, museums, etc. Contact your reps and tell them to support the NEA.

The ocean is an extremely interconnected ecosystem. Everything that lives in the water column (much of it supports human life) is dependent on everything that lives in the sediment on the ocean floor.

If the oceans die, we die.

I mean, obviously this sucks. Because people who don't know how chat gpt works use chat gpt all of the time and they assume it is reliable. It isn't. For what small comfort it is worth, it looks like it isn't confused about your views on Lee.

Screenshot of a ChatGPT prompt:
what was staff writer Gillian Brockell's opinion on Robert E Lee as it related to Lee's personal views on slavery
Gillian Brockell, a staff writer for The Washington Post, has critically examined the commonly held belief that Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee was personally opposed to slavery. In her article titled "Let's get real about Robert E. Lee and slavery," she challenges the narrative that Lee was a reluctant participant in the institution of slavery.
The Washington Post +3
Brockell highlights that Lee's actions and writings suggest a more complex and complicit relationship with slavery than often portrayed. She notes that Lee managed the Arlington estate, which relied on enslaved labor, and that he was involved in the punishment of enslaved individuals who attempted to escape.
Furthermore, she points out that Lee's correspondence reveals a belief in the supposed benefits of slavery for Black people, indicating that he viewed the institution as a means of civilizing and Christianizing them.
Brockell's analysis underscores that the portrayal of Lee as a benevolent figure who was personally against slavery is a revisionist narrative that overlooks the realities of his actions and beliefs. She argues that acknowledging the full extent of Lee's involvement in and support for slavery is essential to understanding his legacy and the broader history of the Confederacy.

This is a more accurate (if boring) summary of my writing on Lee, with links, similar to derivative work or search engine result.

But ChatGPT shouldn’t put my byline on smtg I didn’t write, EVEN IF IT IS ASKED TO! It won’t give me naked pics of your mom if I ask it to, it shouldn’t do this either.

WaPo owns the words I wrote for them, and they have the right to create derivative works, like a movie, from those words, though iirc they had to give the reporter a cut of the deal. They do no the right to use my name OR TO CONFER THE USE OF MY NAME TO A THIRD PARTY.

To be clear, this is on ChatGPT. This is not on washingtonpost dot com.

A screenshot from ChatGPT: "Amid the tension that led to the Civil War, Lee was presented with a choice: remain loyal to the to Union, or side with his home state of Virginia and the Confederate cause. His decision to join the South has been interpreted in myriad ways. Some point to his deep ties to Virginia, and his personal conviction that he could not raise arms against his homeland. Others argue it was a reflection of a broader worldview, one that saw slavery as integral to Southern society -- a worldview that Lee never fully rejected despite his many claims of personal discomfort with the institution.

A screenshot of my actual WaPo writing on Lee:
"Lee is sometimes defended as a "man of his times," who, by the standards of the day, could not have concluded that slavery was wrong or that he could choose loyalty to the United States over Virginia. The former claim ignores the millions of Black Americans who were able to divine slavery's evil at that time, not to mention White abolitionists and White Southerners such as Cassius Marcellus Clay, James Birney and Elizabeth Van Lew, who inherited enslaved people and freed them. As for the latter claim it is worth noting that other high-ranking military officers from Virginia remained loyal to the United States, among them generals Winfield Scott and George Thomas."

When I took the history reporter job, I told my editor I would never "both sides" the Civil War, Confederates or slavery. I never did.

But here, ChatGPT (pic 1) has turned my work (pics 2,3) into whitewashed pablum and put MY FUCKING NAME on it.

I am livid, I am shaking. I don't know what to do.
