New list of employee pay is out. I’ve fallen down to #325… not insanely insulting at all.

I don’t have the bandwidth, but I’ve never been more sure that we, in MA, need to completely redo our public library system. It is designed to fail.
My burnout doesn’t hear that with full kindness in my ears. Because it feels like people are always asking us to do more with a refusal to actually financially support us.
I think the direct quote was “When you're looking for reinforcements, look no further than your local public library."
Mayor Jacob Frey said at #PLA2026 when times are tough, call in the librarians. I hope every Mayor can hear that and offer actual support for libraries!
This has been the GOP's "starve-the-beast" scheme for nearly 50 years. Meanwhile, millions suffer and struggle to get ahead as the rich get richer. See the problem here?
ALA is disappointed that the House Committee on Education & Workforce moved forward dangerous federal book banning legislation yesterday. HR 7661 contains vague, confusing, and overly broad language, inviting government censorship.

Can you imagine?!?
I should complain to my bosses!!! Jkjk that’s not how that works…
I’d love to hear from @trahan.house.gov and understand why you supported this?
WPL ED Jason Homer motions while talking about the “Library of Things” to 30 Holy Cross Students
A day of partnerships. I had 3 different meetings with different groups from Holy Cross, which ended with a tour to some students studying the roles of non profits in communities.
In November, I was invited to speak at the State House about “An Act Regarding Free Expression” my remarks are linked here. Spoiler alert: I’ve never been so nervous in my life!
I couldn’t upload the video because it’s too long, but I’ll link it here.

Photo of Jason Homer, with a screenshot of article titled “Managers discuss strategic planning” text of screenshot: Worcester Public Library Executive Director Jason Homer, center, speaks during a panel on strategic planning during the Massachusetts Municipal Management Association Fall Conference on Nov. 20 in Worcester. Homer, along with Westford Town Manager Kristen Las, left, and Holliston Town Manager Frank Gervasio, discussed the strategic planning best practices they've learned during their careers.
In November, I was asked to join a panel discussion for the MMMA about Strategic Planning. At the WPL, after our last strategic plan ended, using community feedback we stepped away from the traditional plan and moved to a “Strategic Roadmap” with strategic imperatives to guide our decisions.
As I begin to think about the next phase of my career, I am going to take some time to post some of my highlights as ED for WPL over the past 5 years… sorry for the Bluesky dump that is forthcoming!!!
